Devising Y2

Process

The process was quite helpful as we began looking at various different resources of stimuli to source off of for possible ideas to help with gaining a basic understanding of grasping and developing a concept into a full piece; although this was quite helpful it didn’t always help for the time I did one based on the cables and connections: (This was focusing towards the changes on earth and how the earth would always potentially win no matter the conditions).

I did find this quite interesting since it had many different approaches yet with such a minimal group, we couldn’t have expanded our ideas massively, as this was to avoid any form of complexity or overdoing it.

So we began to aiming it towards a simple start up which would be a chair in the middle to resemble for where the tv is sitting and then chairs opposite sides to it.

It was then that we’ve decided this could be used for a mirroring moment or what I’d class as absorbing mirrors and this is where one person sits opposite sides of the other behind and infront of the tv and as soon as one turns it on, they’d use the body to resemble lifeless whilst the other one inside: (otherside) of the tv becomes filled with life to show that the other person has lost consciousness of what’s happening around him and that the other person is showcasing his focus to being inside the tv.

The aim of this was to demonstrate how people are now easily losing touch with society through technology and devices of entertainment then living and exploring the outside natural life style.

(Quiet anger)

You hate me don’t you? I am never good enough for you.

(Anger builds)

No matter what I do it’s not as good as my sister. I always have to hear how she would have done it better. Or how she already did it better.

(Hurt)

Why does she want to ruin my life? She just wants to blot me out like I was some sort of mistake… I’m just a copy… A copy of a copy… Not as good as the original… Not as good as you.

(Sarcastic and bitter)

You are so perfect… Everyone around me is so perfect… And there was nothing left over for me… I am the leftover failures… I am the fatty waste you toss to the dogs.

(Fury)

Everyone hates me! Why does everyone think I am so horrible…

(Shakes and tries to hold back the fury)

Probably because I am. A horrible creature doomed to walk this earth and suffer… For you.

(Cries uncontrollably… Struggles to speak)

I’m hurting… Hurting so bad inside. Cut off from everyone … Punished for some past life wrongs… What did I do in a past life to deserve this…

Or am I paying for the sins of my father… And mother… Am I your sin? Or do I remind you of some sin you want to forget?

(Anger builds)

Or I am a disappointment that keeps disappointing. I even disappoint myself.

(Furious)

I will never be my sister. I don’t want to be her. I hate everything about her!

(Cries… Sadness)

But I don’t want to be me either. Sometimes I want to fade away… Become a shadow… Fading away… Forgotten… Maybe if you forget about me I won’t make you so sad anymore.

END OF MONOLOGUE

01/01/20

In this session, I was aiming to work towards improving my bodily movement as well emphasizing my actions more clearly: this is mainly for the moment when I’m angry at who my character is speaking to whilst they’re working a normal job on the computer. It’s due to them taking far too long and that my character doesn’t have enough time to sit around and so I had to work on walking around her whilst clearly expressing and conveying the anger from my character during that moment.

In the beginning I wasn’t making it around lily quick enough due to getting up at the wrong time or even doing actions for unnecessary lengths of time: I’m hoping to improve on this by rehearsing within our next session for timing of what moment it starts.

01/08/20

During this session we began rehearsing, however I was focusing more clearly on the moment for when I dance in the beginning: as I would end up letting my arm go limp instead of keeping it straight whilst not looking back and fourth therefore avoiding the connection between my character and the other.

This wasn’t good since both of the characters are the one’s who end up getting married and this could’ve caused an issue through not demonstrating the relationship between one another.

I’m hoping to improve on the dancing by watching and learning from basic dancing guides on how to correctly engage during a ball dance or any form of celebration.

I used the tutorial below to get a basic understanding of dancing effectively for which then I started to experiment with the body to create something slightly different.

01/15/20

In this session we began to explore and timescale how long each scene would take up: as we also used the usual room to go over transitioning as well actions during the scene by polishing up the movement and timing with the timing of the song.

I had to also work on improving on the timing with my movement with the umbrella. I was needed to turn away then blindly in synchronicity move back with the song: this would lead me to be covering Lily from the rain during the scene; although I keep end up turning either too late or too quickly, this wasn’t a massive probably yet the hesitation that I kept showing was an issue.

I planned on improving it by taking a moment with Amy by asking and practicing our timing for what note change we turn on.

01/22/20

Today was our final rehearsal session as well as the tech run, this was quite helpful for the matter that it helped with identifying any problems within the performance including the moments that required sound or song changes: this was important to have the scene transitions more clearly.

I found it quite difficult for understanding the scene transition near the end regarding the Christmas family table setup as it wasn’t properly rehearsed at all until the performance day for which caused it to be quite messy without any understanding of time or actions: this made it seem quite unorganized.

It was then with such short period of time that we had: we decided to change it around with placements and who and how we move the props and objects onto stage to encourage the use of time whilst the monologue is going on.

In future, I’d like to have a much more engaging participation with future projects as I’ve mainly written a stand alone monologue with various scene idea’s.

Romeo and Juliet Presentation

Task 1

There was a huge variety of different events occurring at the time whilst Romeo and Juliet was happening such as the ‘Church Of England’. This was built due to ‘Henry VIII‘ being birthed with a daughter, yet he needed a male heir to the throne.

His ideal if having the church built was to nullify the marriage between him and Catherine, so he could remarry and take another attempt at getting a boy.

Add to this with the resource below!

There was a massive change happening with the economic side as well such as the money growth involving bank loans which allowed other people to open their own businesses and in exchange the bank would end up making revenue of interest off of these loans with interest: (This caused a massive impact on the limitations of the money that was made therefore “overdoing the old system and out with the new system”).

This also engaged other potential changes such as the new classes.

These changes also allowed affected the idea of education for which people we’re capable of actually learning, therefore allowing them to accessing much more larger scaled jobs.

Elizabeth III eventually ends up taking the Church one of the other massive changes was from the consistent spiking of trades which ended up creating London: This was one of the main big towns that involved all kinds including the “The Globe”. So that Shakespeare was able to base the shape, space and stage around his performances.

It was then that he also rediscovered all of the long changed experiences of ‘Greek & Roman Texts’. This allowed for him to resurface them in a different way by using them as ideas to develop and effective play: these we’re inspirational for him, as his inspiration mainly came from authors like “Chaucer”

The iconic signature starting point of the performance is when the flag would raise with a cannon shot going off to the symbolise that It’s begun; although the Globe was rebuilt because of it burning down due to a mistake during the cannon fire.

Staging

I would have the stage set as a “Proscenium stage”. I’ve chosen this since it’s effective for the entry points at both sides and that It could be possibly used for timed changes to symbolize that time is passing.

Task 2

Staging of Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet Piece

I have chosen to base it off of this moment during war: Romeo will be the Nazi soldier and Juliet playing a Jewish women.

It was around the moment for when the Holocaust was present, however the Nazi soldier (Romeo) had another fellow Nazi soldier who helped him sneak her out and that being Priest (Friar Laurence).

It was then when Friar Laurence helped her escape after Romeo was outcasted.

It was then that Romeo would have to sneak in without getting caught yet Juliets Household was re-located to another area: by the time Romeo snuck back in, Juliet was gone; although he was able to locate where all of the bodies we’re piled, It was then he finally gave up since he couldn’t find her and him leading to his actions of taking his own life.

Juliet would succumb to waking up from her slumber after taking the sedative/consumption: It was then that she’d wake up to seeing Romeo’s body laying down lifeless. so she would end up trying to get his attention in panic until she finally gives up and takes her own life.

First Scene: Romeo ends up going to a Nazi celebration party for which Romeo ends up seeing Juliet, as he’d try to find every reason to exchange visions and so by the end of the party: They’d leave separate ways according to their Party’s.

Second Scene: It’ll be based within Juliets household for when they’re doing labour work until a break out happens for where both sides of being: (Nazi & Jew Household) are arguing and that leads to Mercutiou’s death: (Montague).

Third Scene: In this scene Romeo is being found out regarding his actions and therefore is outcasted Is found to have escaped before anything is done about it.

Fourth Scene: Is when Juliet pretends to have her death by taking some kind of remedy. So she’d be thrown out with the rest of the bodies; although this worked It was then that the remedy was far too potent that it left her in a long term slumber.

Fifth Scene: Friar Laurence addresses to a close Jew to get the message to Romeo so he’d know about the plan. The Jew ends up attempting to deliver the message and yet gets caught in a labour errand by no choice: (This leaves the delivery of message to be of a fail).

Sixth Scene: Romeo finally gets back into the town around nighttime as he’d sneak to Juliet’s household which was left oddly unwatched. Yet he still proceeds with checking the property to find that its empty, so he rushes to check the body count area.

Upon arriving, he is approached by Paris: (Another Nazi soldier). it was then he realised that he needs to get passed him in order of ending himself, so they’d end up having a small moment of gunfire until Romeo is able to kill Paris and the gunshots alerting sound to all of them around. It was by the time they arrived that Romeo was already dead by the poison he took and yet Juliet wakes up to Romeo bring dead.

Final scene: After finding out that Romeo is dead, she would then end herself by using the gun to finish herself off.

Choices and why?

I’ve chosen to keep the language modernised for the purpose of matching the setting of when the performance is set: I would like the language in general to appeal to all kinds of audience members without translations as the performance will be quite physical yet is leaded by the use of verbal context.

The performance will maintain of basic easy movable props such as Sofa’s, And chairs with a table or two.

Unit 10 Year 2

Task 1

Personal Management Skills Audit

Task 2

Chosen Job Role

I’ve selected the role of a Production Manager as I find these rather critical to any form of performance as they’re tasked with the ideal of being able to organising the deadline and pre-set schedules such as meeting points of when the task has to be accomplished such rehearsal periods, audition preparations; although that they’re required to be able to give accurate and well evaluated research into the progression of the performance by assessing the performance speed and transition between the quality of the piece.

It’s crucial that they’re able to assess and be ready to have an effective measurement plan put aside for any health and safety matters regarding the performance space as well use of production equipment, as this is important due to the safety of the audience as well performers themselves.

It’s required of them to have a strong ideal view on persuasion/negotiating, therefore allowing them to engage with potentially inquiring a higher budget for the performance.

They’re tasked with the objective to obtain the correct materials and resources for the performance, as this is to ensure that the process doesn’t slow down due to lacking anything of necessities.

It’s also important that the Production Manager is capable of being able to negotiate better sales or to have the fundamentals to locate and acquire better offers on anything that is needed in order to save the performance some budgeting.

They must also be able to analyse and keep a strong awareness of the staff members such as attendance. It would be essential for them to mainly understand the progression of each individual actor by issuing effective training sessions

It’s required that they’re able to understand their responsibilities for the choice and selection of maintenance of equipment, as well to keep an effective transitioning communication between each department to support an ongoing consistent trade of requirements; as they would also be needed to keep a repeat of morality push towards the team, so none of them fall behind or slow down.

The Production Manager is someone who is required to be around constantly without taking any form of day or time away from the production to forward the succession and development of different aspects of the performance, whether it would be the performance side or technical side; as this is effectively done through ongoing versatility when it comes to adjusting the plans of the performance.

Personal Profile

I’m Bradley Dale a current ongoing Drama Student who has spent over four years studying Performing Arts as I’ve learned a good majority of essential skills that’s helped me throughout. I’ve had a good amount of understanding of the essential studies so far such as practitioners being: Stanislavski which has given me the basic knowledge of the Stanislavski method or what would be classed the American way; although this isn’t the only way of having an approach towards the performance that’s hand yet I find it rather helpful since using total emotional recall as this is very effective for developing some response towards acting certain scenes and moments.

As I’ve also have found looking into the Given Circumstance as well The Magic If very handy, as these allow me to have a better view on what I’m performing or how to come about deciding my characters perspectives and angles by what they’ve been through or are currently going through and how this has an impact including the 5w which are who, what, where, why and when? These allow me to also evaluate the characters profile and how they should act plus react towards certain characters regarding relationships and thoughts.

I have also learned about the main qualities of Brecht Bertolt’s techniques and approach towards engaging and developing an effective scene or performance based off of Epic Theatre, as this was quite a challenge in the beginning, on the contrary I found it to be quite intriguing contrasting to how Stanislavski’s techniques are used and how differently they develop and present as the ending outcome.

I’ve been able to increasingly improve on my analysing and devising skills, as I find these both to have been very challenging in the beginning as I found it to be very difficult to break down scripts into points of views, furthermore identifying characters intentions, goals, context as well use of actions and defining meanings of Shakespeare; although that I’m still not massively precise on my translation of Shakespeare I would like to improve on this through consistent practice as well by looking further into other way’s or directions of breaking down text into modern English, so that I would be able to understand the conversations and dialogue more clearly.

I’m able to accurately select a piece of stimulus for devising an appropriate piece with some form of definition behind it, as this will allow me to develop pieces to deliver critical or current defining messages towards my audience.

I still find it rather tricky to forward my ideas as there’s moments where my leadership/coordinate skills are conflict which ends up with me blocking or even disallowing myself to contribute ideas at certain times due to my confidence. I would love to acquire a stronger form of self confidence and trust with myself by tasking myself with more individual based tasks as well by taking on more difficult scenarios and approaches; although that this isn’t a massive goal, I would like to improve on this through doing Directing Courses and with the script analysing I would like to engage in script writing.

I’ve got a strong understanding in structuring and developing a short based movie with a unique plot as this would also include being able to find decent stimulus idea’s based around ongoing events throughout our day’s now such as using social acts for observational purposes in gathering an effective idea to develop on top of.

I have good approach for when it comes to movement within pieces and being able to create and present decently shaped presentations with use of effective persuasive reasoning and evidence to back up my statements of why I’ve chosen this as my approach.

I found being able to provide an alright presentation helpful as this can be used to back up my performance research in several different aspects such as being the performance side, technical side or even staging; where as these all have different approaches.

I have in an overall measurement have gained a group of various skills such as one of them also being versatile and adjustable to choices of characters, as these will allow me to have an equal understanding of the contrasting difference of theatre and film, however give me a clear view on how to have the basic level of needing to approach my next stage in improving on all of these with my directing and writing side, as I would love to advance my academic side of experience.

Why would I love to improve on my academic side of skills? I’m hoping to do this through persistent and ongoing development of text, context and even presentational skills as these will expand on my connection method of negotiating in backing up anything, as this would also help me to explore a more broad vocabulary.

I’m hoping in my overall term to increase my project management based skills for being able to successfully produce something that could have an impact within the industry through being able to identify much deeper meanings in text, as I would also like to be able to produce or design my own projects without needing to combat myself by blocking my opinions or idea’s.

Actor Profile

I have chosen Taron Egerton for my option of inspirational actor as he has worked himself up throughout film as well various different theatre acts such as: (No Quarter at The Royal Court and The Last Of the Huassmans at the National Theatre.)

He has studied throughout his years around 2012 at RADA doing the filming and acting course.

I find him to be very aspiring due to the fact that he is involved within loads of action based medieval films and series that I hope to some point take part in within the future.

He’s most highlighted role within the filming industry was playing the main casted character for who was Robin Hood; although that he hasn’t done much but it shows me that he reached the point of playing a highly renown role by acting through theatre.

I found out that he is also rather good with various accents which were acquired through training at RADA as his CV is also very straight forward without mentioning any other previous experiences, let alone just theatre and film’s he’s taken part in.

Chosen Progression Routes

As one of my choices I have selected Royal Central School of Speech and Drama Acting Course as this course contains several different routes to go down such as the acting for screen as well theatre and even tv, I have chosen this course as it’ll help me to expand on being able to enhance my script analysing.

I have decided to go for this course in particular due to the fact that It’s also separated into several parts; even though it’s more based around the acting side and less of directing and writing, I’ve chosen it for the purpose of being one of my options.

It’s mostly aimed towards theory however can still help my improve on my academic side of theory evidence, therefore encouraging my presentation skills and in developing my research to cover up my side; as this will allow me to expand on my in-depth research into plays as well monologues.

I have chosen analysing LIPA as my other choice which entails the Acting (Screen & Digital Media) course, as this is more aimed around script writing, acting, directing as well being able to learn about dealing with other optional roles.

I’ve decided that this would benefit me due to being able to expand on my versatility for when it comes down to having a more stronger understanding of other roles and how to operate them throughout the industry to allow me to have a more clearer acknowledgement of how to setup and work with these positions.

It’ll also allow me to increasingly improve on my development of stories and scripts by having a more insightful view on other practitioners as well how to engage the one’s that I’ve learned about into the scripts more effectively; although this isn’t completely essential that it’ll allow me to reach out to the audiences in other possible methods by using fundamental techniques to impact the story as this also involves new structures.

I have chosen London Film Academy’s BA (Hons) Filmmaking course as one of my choices as it also welcomes the objective to being able to learn and understand with more context on being able to influence other practitioners methods, techniques and training into my possible future projects, therefore allowing the audience to become more intrigued through creating a rather different atmosphere.

This course covers several area’s such as learning about how the other roles operate within the industry and how to engage myself into taking part in any project with such roles as it provides training into them such as: ( Screenwriting, Directing, Cinematography, Sound, Editing ); although this is rather broadly separated throughout different roles, I reckon that this would benefit me due to making it more easier for me to join other projects with more experiences.

As this will allow me to effectively get known through connecting via different departments as for If I end up deciding to progress with my main priority roles such as directing/writing or acting, I’ll be able to expand my connections to assist with the requirements that I would need to do so for my projects.

The course also presents to those who have passed all the way throughout it with potential contacts for future references as well individual experience and challenges within different departments as this will encourage me to challenge much more combating challenges such as special effects work.

I’ve selected MetFilm as my most prioritised option for where I love to educate, due to the mass amount of options that It promises such as the BA Practical FilmMaking (3 Years) course, as this contains a good variety of additional experiences such as a heavily in-depth experience into maintaining a successful film script; although it’s mostly based around Acting, Directing and Writing, It encourages moments of independent work with open lectures for ongoing inquiries when needed.

It also has several new experiences that I can explore such as Factual episodic based projects as well Long Term full projects, as MetFilm’s Film Course welcome’s a strong structure of learning within several different stages over the years as this also includes being able to identify and how to use screen in different various ways.

As my final option I have chosen the Acting for Stage & Screen at Regent’s University London; even though this doesn’t expand in as much area’s as the other educational chosen places, I find what they expand on to be quite helpful due to being able to understand the Script work and directing with more in-depth can be help me through proceeding in the future as well deciding where I’d like to go next after this chosen place.

They teach about the other departments and roles, however It allows me to also target my theatre skills with proceeding these further on to enhance my vocal skills more effectively on stage.

This course also contains more research into the current practitioners and the 19th, 20th century plays; although It allows a more selective branch when it comes down to the semester changes allowing us to allocate ourselves to a different section of research that we would like to look into and study.

Task 3

UCAS Statement

I’m applying for your course as I wish to improve myself in preparation for the future of the
film industry. I’d love to be able to develop my interests in the movie industry by creating
all kinds of genre based films.

I would love to be a part of the new generation of providing journey’s for audiences to watch
by engrossing them with all kinds of techniques and methods, as my ambition comes along with
wanting to understand the current practitioners that I’ve studied into and how to deploy what
they’ve done into developing structure movies such as Stanislavski. I’d like to know what
makes a good film script and how I could utilise this into my own approach. As I would like to
also work on how to make a decent performance and how to also learn the mechanics and
fundamentals of what makes a well-formed Drama.

My aim is to use what I’ve learned so far: as In devising, scriptwriting and also the work of
Stanislavski, I have learned about using resources and pieces as stimuli to generate some
possible source to develop into a structure in order of creating the basic standards of a
movie with the objectives and obstacles as this also involved me needing to explore and
dissect the crucial parts of film such as the ‘bomb under the table’; although this wasn’t my
most favourite example that I’ve seen I found it fascinating to learn about as the audience
was aware of the situation yet the gents sitting at the table wasn’t and the ‘tension’ it
constructed upon time being used as another technique to provide interest to the audience. I
would like to the audience.

I’ve enjoyed what I have learned so far throughout my course years at Colchester Institute as
I have learned how to work from a simple chosen term which could be an ‘apple’ and how to
develop that into a scene which doesn’t mean it’s required to be used all the time. I have
also learned about different ways of exploring character developed and how to manifest my
ideas into a scene in order to create a functioning relationship between different characters
as well how to have it so they develop throughout regarding scenarios, magic and the Given
Circumstances.

I have always participated in any possible opportunity that came my way such as being able to
work behind the cameras on set as this helped me to visualise how everything is manually done
on set and what it takes to maintain an accurate and affective team: as I was amazed by the
way everything is operated and how all the departments are coordinated through various ways,
especially for when I firstly got a glance at the puppet dogs with handles in them yet wasn’t
aware of that being a way of creating lively animals on set.

As I am hoping to explore further into other possible types of theatre like Epic Theatre,
Theatre of Cruelty: so I’m able to use these different types on stage or in front of the
camera to impact the audience.

I enjoy doing performing in front of the camera as well on stage, as it’s exciting to be able
to explore the characters history and what’s going on: it’s that I find it completely
enjoyable to understand and live the lifestyle that they’re going through. I attend screenings
quite often to ask a different variety of questions to understand the ways that other
directors and writers have taken to find the concept of the movie. I’m hoping to take my final
step into higher education for the purpose of expanding my current knowledge and skills.

We was also assigned homework to find good Shakespeare’s scenes.

We’ve also learned from the following session about monologues and speeches.

Tuesday 17th September 2019

We did the Neutral Chair exercise; as this is where we had to walk towards the chair and sit down without having any reason behind the status or emotion, therefore giving no reason for why we are walking to the chair.

I learnt from this that it’s impossible to pull off a empty plain attempt at approaching the chair since you’re always showing some form of story; although you try not to show you, that you end up such as rushed, depressed, sad or even annoyed.

I had to also do a mind map based on my monologue as this technique didn’t work as effectively for me since I didn’t spend enough time on it since it didn’t feel right for me, as I would like to experiment with different techniques in future to assist with my monologues.

In our second lesson we began using the skipping rope which was rather challenging for me due to my first attempt at this which kinda caught me off guard; although it seemed quite simple I felt rather tedious about repeating the same mistake which was when I ended up getting underneath it in time, however I jumped on the rope due to rushing.

I feel like this really helped me as It kinda showed me in a way that I tend to rush without actually focusing or concentrating on the goal; as this led me to second guessing myself throughout which is another issue I end up having during my performance.

Space Relations

In our final lesson we did learning space relations; as I found this quite relaxing due to the fact that we would just move around exploring and getting comfortable with our space

We then began to explore Shapes: this being moving within the concept of lines and angles, at first I wasn’t sure how this worked which had me somewhat confused on the space trying to work out what he meant by moving in lines.

In the end we explored our final view points which would be.

Tuesday 24th September 2019

In today’s lesson we continued to looking at grey spaces as well by exploring the space more with a different variety as well without music; although I did find this quite challenging since in the beginning I felt like that the music kept me distracted instead of overthinking what I was doing at the time.

I would like to be able to freely express my creativity as well adaptability to the atmosphere and space more clearly without being so consciously nervous of what I’m doing as this tends to be what causes me to zone into the space allowing my to take observation of the audience as It would put me off heavily.

I’m hoping to improve on this through practising my concentration and focusing skills as well confidence levels through volunteering more often or even to participate in activities more often in front of everyone.

Tuesday 22nd October 2019

During my rehearsal period, I decided to use repetition for when I glance at Hermia several times giving off some sense of desperation and desire for her whilst I stand up doing my speech towards her.

I found this difficult in the beginning since I wasn’t firm on having my lines learned which made it rather hard to focus on the actions with the lines leading me to slip on words or even to forget what I’m saying.

I’m hoping to improve on this by spending my time to learn my lines in my spare time, even with my peers for when were all available.

Tuesday 29th October 2019

I decided to look further into the theme’s of the performance to have a much more clearer view on the aspects of the performance itself such as: Jealousy, Dreams and even Magic as these all we’re displayed throughout the performance such as jealousy between Lysander and Demetrius and that I’ve also decided what I was hoping for my character to be wearing such as the following clothes.

Tuesday 5th November 2019

I’ve looked into a good majority of research for my character as well potential approaches towards the play, as I found out that due to the way of the characters being poisoned by some form of hypnotic love potion of mischief, that it would lead me up to coming up with a conclusion to play my character with a more brain washed like attitude.

20/12/2019,

the love potion is properly administered to Demetrius so that he falls in love with Helena.

https://study.com/academy/lesson/demetrius-in-a-midsummer-nights-dream-character-traits-analysis.html

This has helped me to come up with a concept that he could potentially be somewhat more out of connection with himself and reality however I have also received feedback off of my lecturer today informing me that he should be played more “Camp” – Overly exaggerated or for which I would consider to be my view upon this word.

This for sure has helped me to make the character more funny, as It helped to make it flow more clearly without being basic however I still found it difficult considering that I would still allow some of my own personalities slide through into the character breaking it from the context that he should be played as.

I would like to improve on this by exploring the characters actions, personality, views and even relations more clearly through doing in-depth research about Demetrius.

Tuesday 12th November 2019

In today’s lesson I found out that I wasn’t freely exploring the way of how I’m using my sentences for example “No, No. follow as you will do, you are a tame man go!”; I using this whole phrase in an aggressive approach towards Lysander due to the way he feels about him liking Helena as well.

This wasn’t the case as I recently gotten feedback from one of my peers who mentioned how I should be using apart of it as a response to Hermia’s character being pushed away by him for which then I use from “follow as you will do” towards Lysander as the first bit is me reassuring Hermia.

I would like to improve on this by doing research into the contextual side of the script and my characters intentions and circumstances for what’s cause him to act or feel a certain way at the current time.

Video of Rehearsal Period

Tuesday 26th November 2019

During today’s session we got in early to do group rehearsals for which I was still following my actions of playing the character, however was concentrating far too much on Luka’s character which I was given feedback from Leyla regarding understanding the lines more clearly as some of them didn’t come to me clearly.

I was also given feedback from Lily to focus my characters attention more onto her character as my role (Demetrius): was fascinated with Helena due to the potion.

I found this very difficult considering that I wouldn’t know what moments to react with due to the short time frame of adjusting the last changes before the performance.

It was only then that we got into class to perform, yet it seemed that we had an hour and more to rehearse even more which gave me time to polish on top of these; although that I felt slightly concerned about overthinking these changes during the performance as that would lead up to me putting myself off of focus.

In future I would like to expand my acceptance and confidence for last minute changes as well to be more versatile for when it comes to experimenting with use of displaying character emotions or feelings through face.

I’ve been able to also practice and focus more clearly without overthinking everything due to the amount of exercises we’ve done to take myself out of my comfort zone more often, therefore challenging my confidence as I’ve achieved this through working on my mental focus and objectives.

Audition Materials/Monologues Evaluation

In the beginning I found it challenging to find potential monologues that could suit my interest for which then I had several opportunities to do practice auditions. I found it rather regrettable that I wasn’t able to obtain two potential monologues until the final practice audition; although I learned from choosing Alan Rickmen and after showcasing it. I found it to be a consistent horrible rant which didn’t suit me, so I’d like to improve on my selections by doing further research into certain authors and what the monologues are about.

I’ve chosen one of the monologues out of Pat Barkers book which is Regeneration as the monologue is about a fellow guy talking about the war for when he was there.

I found this monologue very intriguing to me because of the use of pacing throughout it being slow; although that certain moments are very meaningful of how quickly it all changes and what has happened.

The most enticing part of it to me was the way it was delivered such as the lines of “I climb out of this dungeon once again”, as this s describes the state of the trenches until he gets to the top and starts describing it for as If it’s events that occurred in the past and his colleagues being ‘Towers’ would be singing for as If they we’re the good times.

I chose a monologue out of Killer Joe done by Tracy as I started off with playing it off more as of enforcing against the person who is with Dottie being Chris’s Sister; although that this felt right, I found out from feedback that it sounded more effective and accurate when held at gun
point as if my character being (Chris) was trying to tell Joe that he isn’t a good fit for Dottie because of his way of living.

As Joe tends to kill loads of people with his firearm for a living therefore being some kind of murderer for which my character heavily fears him at the time yet is trying to get him to leave Dottie alone without violence by comparing joe himself and his parents aren’t perfect, however that Dottie still turned out perfectly fine.

I was happily satisfied with my overall progression with the performance however If I could improve on anything it would be a more transparent understanding of the story within the characters and how they came to be within the situation that they’re currently in.

As for future reference I would like to advance my research in having a better evaluation and any analysis of where each character originated from and the relationship between one another and what it was like between Dottie and her parents.

I would’ve also liked to have spent more time at looking at various of other monologues to find contrasting paved monologues to be more difficult as both of them we’re equally steadily paced with one being historic and the other one being about a family and murder.

Artaud

10/04/19

In today’s session, we explored various way’s of creating an atmosphere of Artaud through using different approaches such as being ‘Audience Placement, Recording, Screaming, Primitive Sound and even Experimented Sound’: I wasn’t completely sure on the use of ‘Experimented Sound’ as I could only assume that this was possibly mixing different noises and sounds together to create something that sounds like an ‘abomination’ or even unsettling.

I would like to do further research into other techniques or methods that could be used with Artaud to create a more developed approach towards the performance.

In my spare time at home I looked at any other form of approach to Artaud and the way’s of Theatre of Cruelty as I found out that we could possibly use disturbing images to put off the audience.

29/11/19

In today’s session we proceeded with working on the state of our performance as I found out that whenever I was bending backwards it felt quite uncomfortable and that the timing was also off regarding my reaction time: It was due to the way I was standing with my knee’s being sorta locked upon bending back for which I would be forcing my knee’s to relax too quickly.

I’m hoping to work on this by getting use to exploring different ways of approaching much safer stances for when I’m bending backwards without forcing it too quickly.

I would like to do this within my sparetime at home ready for next week.

6/12/19

In today’s lesson we began to rehearsing our performance once again as I was focusing mostly around polishing my timing on entering and that I had to improve on my screaming or even growling scream upon entering, as I would usually enter without putting enough projection into it.

It was in the beginning that I worked out it was hurting my throat; although this wasn’t a good I would like to find a solution to this by working on past exercises that we’ve been taught such as the ‘Ha, Ha’: as this will help me to root myself more instead of forcing it out.

I also realized that I was always reaching my neck forwards when jumping out or sometimes with moments of aggression, so I would like to focus on not using my neck as the answer to doing aggressive moments or even scenes.

I’ve managed to work on my coordination and timing for the possessive scene for when I have to bend backwards screaming as this was feeling quite uncomfortable and off due to the positioning of how I would be standing and bending over.

13/12/19

Today was our performance date which is where we ran several tech rehersals for which is where we had to get our make up prepared with also our scenes staged with the lighting. I found this to be quite exciting to be ready to perform this; although at the same time was wondering what I could have contributed If we had more time since I wasn’t sure whether my presentation side up to the required standard and would’ve liked to presented in more depth regarding the side of explaining my side of what I’ve research.

The only issue I encountered was consistently thinking of how I would come about entering since It wasn’t planned with an audience and our setting of staging, so I wasn’t sure whether any audience member would be in the way or If there would be some form of entry.

It was resolved by deciding the seating though with me being stuck within the wings leaving me with such an awkward angle to get a run up to dash in whilst jumping at the same time as I was hidden around the side of the wing so I had to run out and turn to approach my part: I was able to pull this off however would like to improve on my problem solving skills since I was stuck overthinking the complication therefore potentially creating one for myself instead of keeping completely relaxed.

In the end of the performance it went extremely well with high coordination and team work as we then gathered feedback from the audience allowing them time to deliver helpful information for the future.

In the overall run of the feedback from the audience I was satisfied my groups progression as It was enjoyable working with one another.

Artuad Reflection

Our group done further research into the selected religion as well culture as this helped with identifying the meaning behind it action.

The Process

It all started for when we began with a different variety of exercises regarding senses such as high pitch noises, as we then began to move around exploring all possible abnormal movements and sounds based on what we could hear coming from the sounds and noises.

In this exercise I explored the movement of a creature screeching sounds which gave me an idea of some sort of golem/naked defiled corpse which resembled like a naked male who has been through countless tortures.

In the beginning this was challenging; although quite enticing to indulge myself within the activity as then we began another activity which was describing our day with sounds and actions: I decided to do my kitchen with waking up then following up with toast and the kettle.

In the following weeks to come we began to also exploring fantasy stories and then putting a twist on them to relate to Artuad without following the actual story but to create something that seems to be a ‘nightmare or twisted version’.

It was only then after completing and performing this that we watched a video of an exampled piece which helped to compare the perspective that someone else done it and what we’ve done; although it felt rather uneasy with how it felt yet helped me to understand how our piece should’ve looked. It was only then we began to explore the script of ‘Company of Wolves’.

This was difficult to begin with to understand until we started to read it over with an assignment to do further research into the pages as this also helped with identifying certain key words that describe the characters, relations as well situations. I found out that there are two potential different routes that could be referenced with evidence to back up such as how the girl eventually felt pity for him and decided to stay with him and the other was that she was forced or gave in to him because she knew she had no chance due to being surrounded by wolves.

As soon as this assignment was completed and that we all showed and explained within a presentation of what we got, we then formed it into a piece in front of the other group to explain that part of the story: It was then we decided to use acting to form picture frames with steady narration to explain what’s happening before we swap to the next tableau.

It was then we swapped around and watched the other group do their presentation which helped collect the whole story more clearly for which then we began to break it down into a group and created a structure which explains how we are going to perform it as we used key words such as ‘red, white with a religious angle’ – as this led us to basing the characters off cultural names which matched the characters persona’s as this helped with developing and playing the characters more clearly for the audience.

Then came the day of performing it; although I found out that on the day I chose an uncomfortable approach certain scene’s for which is where I had placed myself in a horrible stance when leaning over and it caused me to shake which also made the scene look rather off.

I would like to improve on my bodily core and stability by doing consistent yoga and movement exercises to help with stabilizing more complex stances and actions.

It was then we finally came together doing a reshape on our performance which then we changed around how was going to perform it leading to developing such scenes being the Indian Dance, Wolf scare and circle movement which then goes into a sexual interaction between both wolves to cause discomfort. It was then we finished off with the possession like scene going into the uncomfortable circle transition of staring and making snorting/laughing noises with long lasting stares on a side we’ve decided.

We then worked on our final scene falling backwards and crawling back to back forming some kind of bodily circle whilst laughing in different ways whilst staring at someone still and that was the end.

  • Briefing and breaking down the script.
  • Exploring a more creative manner for the actions and noises.
  • Enhancing my comfort with expanding creativity (Self-Conscious of self).
  • Coordinating with my partners and higher level of confidence.
  • Further research into Artuad – advanced contextual understanding as well.
  • More Contributions.
  • In-depth understanding of the cultural aspects and events.

I looked into what other traditional events took place during the marriage as they would pour milk on the groom’s feet.

After watching the play back, how did I feel about it?

After watching the performance, I was rather please with outcome of the actions and Artaud used within it such as the swift transition of silence into some form of ‘primal’ shout upon entering for which I was able to catch an audience member off guard causing them to scream and jump; although this wasn’t my intention I found it to be very enjoyable.

I found maintaining a strong position when bending to be slightly difficult since the beginning of the rehearsal periods however have been practicing exercises that require using my limbs more often such as ‘planking’ and also warm ups with stretching and balancing.

I reckon that the ensemble coordination was very smooth without any concerns as I could see that everyone was focused and heavily concentrating on the performance and the space with every slight action and space used up. We had the audience sitting in a circle which was quite effective since It allows us to move around within such a tight and limited space but also to catch them off guard from the outside.

In the beginning of learning about Artaud, I found the circle to be more useful than using the Semi-Circle and also hunched back to back as this left the audience to be less comfortable considering that within those they could see the other audience members therefore causing some disturbance of being able to see how they feel and express during the performance.

There was a small brief of feedback gathered such as the cultural choice of items such as the used ‘rope’. I think that I would’ve liked to improve on my research into what they actually used regarding the symbolization of the event occurring at the time.

How does it relate to the Theatre of Cruelty & Artaud

The Theatre of cruelty was all about disturbing the audiences sense with unexpected actions and sounds which could also include long lasting silences of gazing, staring or even nothing; although all of these can cause different impacts the use of spacing and objects as well sounds.

The main objective of ‘Theatre of Cruelty’ is about breaching the audiences senses

Who is Artaud?

Artaud was highly identified to be a well known Actor and playwright, who was steadily left the ideal of surrealism as the movement helped him to mold his theories ‘Theatre of Cruelty’.

How does this benefit my knowledge and understanding of work

Learning about Artaud has helped me to understand a more different way of approaching Theater instead of directly putting on a performance to entertain or even to immerse them into some kind of journey, as Artaud allows me to immerse the audience whilst not allowing them to sink into a comfortable slumbering state whilst watching.

It’s showed me that Theater can be taken to a much more extensive limitation then Physical Theater and also has shown where’s the breaking point for what should and shouldn’t be done.

Targets & Goals

  • I would like to improve on my organisation skills.
  • I would like to enhance my creativity for when it comes to working with the sounds and noises.
  • I would like to do more in-depth research to back up the contextual side.
  • I would like to locate a mass majority of references to use as resources.
  • I’d like to expand more on Artaud then what we’ve already been told in our sessions.
  • I would like to use the next opportunity for presentation to evaluate and create a more visible and friendly approached collage to express to the audience more clearly.
  • Improve on my confidence levels with contributing.
  • Team coordination skills and core work

How did I improve on this?

I would like to improve on my organisation skills by create a more structured and timetable system by using a folder with Unit Names with highlighted brief questions & scheduling time dates for specific days of working on my assignments.

I’m planning to achieve this through sorting out my equipment as well using some type of reminding calendar or notification with dates pre-set for planned deadlines before the official deadlines.

I am hoping to enhance my creativity for when it comes to comparing movement and actions to the noises whilst using this to development something that seems rather out of the ordinary to affect the audience’s senses by developing ghastly and ghoul like screeches, painful irrational cries with matching movement such as a ‘werewolf transformation’ or ‘ghoul like man losing himself’.

I’m hoping to expand on my research capabilities by looking into relatable theatre’s or places that used the practitioners methods and other possible techniques that ‘Artaud’ has used to have an impact on his audience and why did he choose it.

List of methods and techniques

  • We did a method for moving around whilst listening to sounds and noises whilst exploring the space.
  • We then began making sounds with all kinds of objects within the room, as I chose to do it with a plastic cup.

DPS

The Greeks performed at the ‘Theatre of Dionysus which was capable of witholding ‘21,000’ audience members. It was known that the festival was only maintained and held throughout the day time.

It was also noted that all of the prisoners would be allowed out for one day to see this and yet It was the only form of entertainment back then.

It wouldn’t have been possible to use any form of sound effect.

Antigone Process (Presentation)

Presentation Reflection

I was rather pleased with the outcome due to the amount of research and choices that I’ve taken such as exploring a different way to stage it for which I decided to go for a ‘Western’ interest. I found this interesting since when certain sheriff’s obtain their position within that town, and this ends up leading to power hungry decisions for whatever the sheriff claims is what tends to stick leading to people requiring to abide by the rules in that town and If they didn’t like someone, then they’d be exiled which really intrigues me since I can relate this to one of the brothers exiling.

I also thought that it would be a good idea to have the stand off between the brothers in the towns roadway for which they’d have back then.

Image result for western stand off

As this then leads to the sheriff of the town and the exiled brother shooting each other, leading to a dual connected death which then Creon taking the position of sheriff.

Monologue Presentation

Sentry’s Monologue

Were gonna pull straws to see who ends up with the short straw, I hope it isn’t me as I haven’t got any idea on how to deliver the news to Creon himself. If I do draw it, then how do I tell him. Do I address it in a sudden manner to get it over with? No, No, No. That wouldn’t be right, as he would just blow up in fury and strike me down with one of his other child.

This is a very difficult one, but maybe I shouldn’t be overthinking it right now because I haven’t drawn a straw yet! Yes, that’s right, I haven’t pulled one out yet, but If I do? What do I do? I’ve got it! I could level myself at his standing point to show that I’m not afraid and that I don’t deserve to be taken down with the others. It’s all out or nothing.

How do I approach him now? I haven’t thought that part through and yet I should’ve thought it through before working out how to even tell him. It could be that I inform him of the matter that we noticed it from the distance or above! That’s gotta be the way to do it right?

Haha, I’m sure that’s the best way to come about it, now- say I didn’t pull the small straw, then It wouldn’t matter right? That would be so perfect, but I shouldn’t be to sure that I will or won’t. It’s either that I will or that I won’t- but the odds that I would are unbelievable. I already know that a lot of problems just spring my way all the time and yet, I can’t control that. So that’s it then. If I end up pulling the small straw, I will muster everything that I’ve got and will stand my ground in front of King Creon, and will make sure that I tell him that the body was buried, and If he still stands up with threats towards me. I’ll be sure to state my leave, that’s right!

I will stand up to King Creon himself and state that I desire to never come back after the matter since I don’t want anything to do with his troubles anymore an- I’ve got it, I’ll bring him the culprit themselves, that’s perfect. If I do that then that would show my personal worth and would also clear his judgement upon me. I would have done what was expected of me.

In that circumstance, I’ve got everything solved and won’t have to have a worry in the world for when I pull this short straw, and It’s coming to it. The day is going by and the time is coming, I can see it coming drawing close with a haste. The more I stand here on guard, and that the day is moving by quickly. I see so many people, and who know’s that this person has walked past us so many times.

I’ll be the first to find and for sure will, and no matter how far you are or how well you hide yourself. I’m gonna set up a trap, that trap is gonna be perfect, In fact so perfect that they’re not gonna see it coming. I better head off now as the circle is calling, the circle for making the decision on who pulls this judgement!

Viewpoints Script Work (‘Buckets’ by Adam Barnard)

During the first day of our process we began exploring the view points as well as the ‘grey space’. The Grey Space was about finding a plain starting position from one another in order of being ready to explore the space by using different methods to form movement without looking for something or moving with a natural everyday expression of movement such as ‘Architecture’. It’s where we would find something such as being a blind or box and form ourselves into the object for moving around the space; although this was strange in the beginning I was self aware of how I looked when moving around and this was a predicament for me since It was making me wonder of what the others looked like when moving around and whether I was doing it correctly.

I found this challenging since it put me off regarding my focus however I would like to enhance this by exploring some self conscious exercises or possibly by challenging confidence and focus through doing a past method that I’ve done which was finding a space in the room and concentrating on it without being put off by anything else.

It didn’t in the beginning however using it over the duration of my day’s, It steadily helped me to improve on my focus and independence instead of being concerned of how my partners looked within this activity and to have more self trust.

We also looked at ‘Kinetic Response with tempo and repetition’. It was with these that I found them much more easier to follow considering that ‘Kinetic Response’ came much more naturally upon reacting to others without pre-planning my response since it was sudden responses upon being blocked off whilst walking on the ‘grid’.

The ‘Grid’ felt rather peculiar due to the way we had to move which was only sudden turns with the whole body and as If we was walking on some type of lines that was connected to loads of other strings as If it was a spider web but made out of loads of squares.

I found this method to be very helpful for when it was coming concentrating on my own space without acknowledging other people unless we was about to collide therefore focusing more clearly on when to turn and to stop.

We then within the long run after studying and rehearsing our shakespeare scenes began to looking into ‘Buckets’ and learned about atmosphere’s and what creates them. I wasn’t so sure about the idea of how it was done.

It was then when we was put into groups for working together to express ‘atmospheres’ but not with our faces, It’s more to do with creating a feel for it with how we are expressing our bodily actions instead of just pulling the facial expression; although this was interesting I found it slightly difficult since I’ve had issues of pulling the wrong facial expressions before during a performance which made me assume that I might’ve done so again, as this was to once again to do with ‘second guessing’.

I’ve been hoping to improve on my second guessing for a long while over the last terms performances since it’s what leaves me to overthinking and then impacts my physical performance as I would like to solve this issue through doing self trust exercises in my spare time and to do so, I am planning to do research into potential exercises done by actors to enhance my self trust.

I have improved on this by participating in other opportunities in my spare time that required me to do unusual activities that I wouldn’t have done such as independent work of moving props or helping with other needed parts.

It was then we began reading through the ‘Buckets’ scripts; although this took a vast majority of two sessions It was interesting to explore each script and to see what everyone’s opinion was on each scripts of who preferred what?

I found the monologue to be quite interesting for the way it was shown, It seemed to be an impressive speech which was quite dramatic; although I decided to do this in the end I did find learning or even breaking it down over the weekend tricky due to needing specific atmosphere’s to describe what’s being spoken and all I could find was ‘grief’. It was only then I realized that it would’ve taken me far too long to learn within such short period: so I swapped to doing ’10.Charity’ and the other one was to do with jumping out of an air airplane.

I sat down with my partner breaking down the atmosphere’s that would’ve matched ‘Charity’

My partner and me have chosen ‘Inviting, Stern, Open, Playful, Brooding and Playful: as our atmosphere’s which helped with making the performance more enjoyable as It also helped with developing the conversation and lines to have more of an impact turning it into one character outside needing donations for kids with chancer as he was supporting the cause and yet someone else comes along asking for donations in a rude abrupt manner by approaching people about it.

During our assessment day of performing this, It was rather sudden and instant with our lines and responses as well the airplane one I’ve been rehearsing; I was more satisfied with it due to it sounding more like people trying to shout to hear one another before jumping out of an open plane.

I wasn’t completely enticed with my actions as I sorta left them undeveloped, therefore am hoping to improve on these for next time. I would like to improve on my movement as I wasn’t sure whether the movement during the piece felt right for the atmosphere: The lines we’re delivered clearly with correct atmosphere’s, even though that the movement was off since I felt like I was basing it more off my reactions to the other person, yet wasn’t giving any in-depth reason of why I was moving.

I’ve looked over my overall performance and was rather pleased with the progression of understanding the atmosphere’s and how they’ve impacted the performance: I was hoping that If I had more time or decided my performance piece much earlier that I could’ve worked on it more.

I would’ve improved on projecting with a more distanced voice, as I was hoping to explore with various ways of using the viewpoints to affect the performance.

Shakespeare’s Globe

It was built around all of Shakespeare’s plays so that they’d fit the purpose and would be more effective as the play’s we’re written specifically for the space.

The audience is the most important part of the Globe as they add a Dynamic feel to the space, as they create a strong unifying effect upon reacting as well placement throughout the theatre such as the Pit; although it still costs this would be the most cheapest space to afford since it’s for all of the low income people.

As there would also be stand alone plays which would be there for emphasising.

Shakespeare can think his way into a women’s as well a males mindset.

The performance would go on for three hours exactly where they would be needed to go to the toilet where they stood as well other events would be occurring at the same time.

Hamlet

Hamlet Practical & Context

I started off with doing Hamlet as we was discussing and breaking down the characters and for how the theme would take place as we’ve watched a couple of different versions on how people have played it when then we’ve decided for the theme to base it around the modern generation of society such as clothing.

It was slightly confusing to grasp how I could apply the modern generation onto the play such as deciding what kind of issues was implied through out the performance or how I could come across showing them.

In the next following day we’ve discussed more about the casting for which we was all given our roles which I was taken up King Claudius, so I wasn’t so sure how I should play him at all; as we proceeded with discussing about the theme again as well what kind of costumes that we would use for our characters and so I decided to go with something closely resembled to a suit for a business male as King Claudius would be rather well suited in the modern days.

I would like to hopefully get something quite similar to above for my character.

after last session we began to officially start setting our scenes such as actions as well lines; yet I kept struggling with certain lines as I wasn’t sure with what I was saying when it came down to my parts that needed setting such as the first scene, so after the feedback I decided to underline it and break down what was the motive behind me saying this, I would like to also improve on being able to individually understand the script by breaking down the contextual side of the lines to find out what they mean; I’m going to do this by going through my scripted parts by underlining and translating bits by bit as well by watching different versions and how they express the lines through movement.

“He’s explained that his sister is now the queen as they’ve married”

In the next session we continue with rehearsing by continuing the setting of the performance for which I decided to go over my next paragraph when I was at home after receiving feedback; I changed the motion by crossing out the wrong action down below.

I was struggling to work out what to do for actions when reacting or even interacting with the other characters on stage as I was finding it slightly hard to work out the way of coordinating my words into actions without understanding the whole script throughout and that I found it difficult to keep up with certain words as I would still stumble on them; I’m planning to improve on this by dedicating several hours a day practicing my lines and by breaking down the paragraphs, I’m hoping to achieve this by next week.

The next following week, I began preparing my clothes as I was heading out in town for several ties as well fresh white long sleeve tops to fit my character King Claudius.

We then began the next week performing the next week, however I found this to be more interesting as we aimed towards developing the character through the style as I noticed how certain people would walk around the streets with heads quite high and that they tend to overlook everyone else with heights and how they’re far above everyone else, I received feedback on how my character is represented vocally as well physically throughout some of the rehearsals for which it wasn’t anywhere near what was being said on the script; so I would like to aim to developing my character’s expressions as well bodily actions. I’m going to improve on this by rehearsing at home with the technique of imaging them from Michael Chekhov

For the final week before the performance date we ended up doing a full run through of both performances which then we started to do a full blocking of what was left as I wanted to improve on how my character stood, walked and acted throughout the play towards the other characters; so I decided to do some research into possible ways of walking, standing and sitting down to help me represent the character more clearly.

Hamlet Evaluation & Reflection

It came to our first day of performing Hamlet as I ended up freezing on stage because I allowed myself to wake up on stage which then I consistently kept procrastinating on my lines overthinking as If I forgot them which in the end I recovered by prompting my next part jumping over the paragraph; so I allowed myself to get caught off guard.

I wasn’t so clear on my projection as well diction throughout the performance in front of the audience as I ended up dropping lines half way constantly which then caused me to drop in motivation and enthusiasm when rehearsing; I’d like to improve on this by rehearsing over my lines whilst at home and during the final day of performing Hamlet.

I went over my lines constantly last night as well during the spare time we was given in the morning which helped to focus on what I should be saying as I prepared where my props we’re already placed and for which I used the starting interval to relax and prepare my mind; as I was able to execute my line delivery this time without issues.

I feel like that my second day of the performance was more successful due to being able to proceed with delivering my lines with a consistent ongoing level of projection as well enthusiasm with my lines other then my first day for which I ended up pausing and forgetting what I was going to say because I kept overthinking what was said or done.

I found the stage setting to be rather helpful as it easily flowed from what sides I was entering with as I would always follow up or have Queen Gertrude on the same side and that I was able to be freely creative with my character and how he should act since day one as in the beginning I had no acknowledgement or idea of how I wanted to play him or was gonna relate him to the other characters.

Taming of the Shrew

Taming Of The Shrew Context & Practical

We started off with discussing about Taming Of The Shrew and how we would possibly theme it for which then we watched some small clips based on the summary of the performance; as we then discussed about the theme as well created a group scroll on stage which we could individually fill in adding our own concepts or possible ideas.

We then discussed the theme which would be classed on #MeToo as this has a strong resemblance till today’s society such as Sexual Harassment and females standing up for what they consider to be wrong therefore fighting for the wrong against women.

It was alright to understand the concept of #MeToo when it was mentioned as I didn’t find it as difficult, however I would like to do further research into it to have a more stronger understanding of what it’s completely about and why it’s been started; I’m going to improve on this by looking it more through possible books or network.

We began setting Taming Of The Shrew after we sat down, where everyone was given the casting roles as I casted as Lucentio for which he’s a strongly positive person as I’ve decided to theme him around the clothing style of some who just finally arrived and made it into the dreamworld as If he was ready for Holly wood for example below;

I would like to be able to identify the script easily which will allow me to apply my character rather early before the deadline, therefore allowing me to contribute more time towards my script as well character development, by organizing and scheduling times and day’s towards each of my assignments throughout the week allowing me to equally split my time between rehearsal periods.

I’ve found Taming Of The Shrew to be slightly more easier than Hamlet since most of the sentences flowed into one another and that it wasn’t as difficultly worded compared to Hamlet; as I also Tranio being a companion/servant instead of a normal servant as if there was some kind of friendship bond, I found this to be more easier due to us being able to feed off one another for motivation and enthusiasm when it came to interacting with one another.

I would like to improve on involving more interaction with Tranio by extending my bodily engagement with him such as pats or moments of where I’m excited such as when I’m entering Padua for the first time; I’m hoping to develop some kind of improvised interactions in the next couple of rehearsal sessions.

The next following session I was able to successfully learn my lines over the time period at home whilst rehearsing with my peers during college; as I then had James for which then we discussed about the themes after rehearsing which I got feedback on being required to play the character more cooler as well with a lot more energy.

I’m hoping to improve on my levels of enthusiasm as well on how I deliver my lines, so I can deliver them with a lot more energy instead of just saying it as I would like to give off some kind of signal that my character: (Lucentio) has been waiting for this moment for a long time and that he’s come a long way from the air port to then be overwhelmed by everything going on around him and Tranio.

I’d like to accomplish this through practicing on transferring my energy of when I’m excited into the lines when interacting with Tranio, as this allows me to encourage him to come over from the side, therefore pushing a better reaction from the both of our conversation.

Taming Of The Shrew Evaluation and Reflection

When it came down to our first performing day on Wednesday 19th, we did a consistent ongoing tech rehearsal to work out the starting queues as well special effects and sounds; as I found my first day to be rather well when it came down to executing an ongoing performance for Taming of the shrew, however I ended up receiving feedback regarding my diction, projection and energy levels where I kept allowing myself to drop the energy throughout my scripts.

So I would like to enhance my motivation for keeping my lines well projected as well with more determination involved instead of letting certain parts go quite or even lose color therefore making it quite difficult for the audience to understand or that it heavily impacts the scene’s intentions; I am hoping to work on doing a couple of warm ups before tomorrow’s performance by doing b,d,g and p,t,k as well Ma, Na, La, Tha, Va, Za.

These warm ups will help me prepare myself more clearly before the performance as I would like to keep an ongoing levels of energy throughout the performance.

For my final day of performing Taming Of the Shrew on Thursday, I was able to easily prepare for which I already placed my clothing change down in order and rearranged it so I was already dressed for the marriage scene due to entering late yesterday; as this helps me to easily keep up with the scene transitioning.

I’ve also started off with doing some vocal warm ups in the backstage to prepare myself ready this time as I also went around ensuring that all my props and costumes we’re correctly set on the right and left side of the stage to polish the transitioning between my scenes.

As I found today to run more smoothly without any issues therefore me being able to easily deliver on a strong level of projection and diction; however I was able to retrieved feedback from a tutor allowing me to identify that my use of vowels as well letters needs more improvement as sometimes letters would be lost within the words.

I would like to improve on this by consistently doing my vocal and rp vowel sheets over the monthly break therefore allowing me to spend some of my break time towards my next progression.

Taming Of The Shrew Research

“Madness”

I’ve applied this to my aspect of the performance for the fact that King Claudius isn’t sanely capable of being mixed in with his Human morals therefore leading him to only think about himself as well his riches and money.

Monologue

Today I started off with selecting Spur of the moment as my monologue because it felt like there was some kind of connection through the way I felt when I was performing it on copy in front of my peers, as I found the wording to be rather difficult because of different feelings and emotions that would flow through the words when speaking it; so I wasn’t able to decide on how I wanted to express and who I was talking to when I was performing my monologue.

I would like to improve on having a better understanding of when to change emotion and reflect upon my words for what I’m saying and who I am currently targeting; I am gonna do this through doing research into the summary of the monologue and how old my character is as well what kind of life style could they be living.

Image result for hoodie fashion male

The following day after my performance I ended up checking over and breaking down the summary where I found out that my character who is a Twenty One Year Old Lodger which is talking to himself about how he feels about everything that’s gone on; as this gives me a negative emotion for how I should do my speech, so I decided to perform it quickly on purpose to give a consistent tension feeling for how my character feels throughout the monologue.

I ended up finding it slightly challenging to remember my script for the way it changes in emotion as I was hoping to do the actions and script at the same time; I would like to advance on this by performing it in front of one my peers and then asking for feedback or to find another method of remembering my monologue with my actions.

On Monday I discussed my monologue with my tutor who then recommended that I get off copy before the following week to perform it without the script so I would be able to isolate my time on rehearsing the reason behind my speech.

I tried rehearsing my monologue at home with pre planned actions and movements with my lines as this didn’t help me out at all but make it more difficult to remember my lines when I came in today for rehearsing the top half of my monologue.

I’m hoping to improve on finding an effective method or technique to enhance my capabilities of remembering the lines by next week, I’m going to do this through practising a method that I learned in class with Emma which was to find a space on the wall and image my character or who I’m speaking to which then I can deliver my lines.

On Tuesday we began to do several possible methods to help with identifying our character and what kind of motivation was behind the way the lines we’re delivering, such as where they just came from and who they’re speaking to; I didn’t find these to be very helpful as It only made it somewhat more complicated as I ended up questioning whether it had some sort of effect or was making a difference.

It came down to placing markers on the script for when every time we came up to a change of mood or emotion during the monologue which is then we’d note down an apostrophe or mark; as then when we came up to semi colons or even a full stop, we would then take a moment to stop and change direction with the amount of change in character.

I found this more helpful than the other methods since it helped me to easily identify and note down when my character could have a change in mood or to acknowledge other bits that I didn’t notice before; however for next lesson, I would like to learn the rest of my monologue to officially perform without any kind of trouble as I am going to do this through dedicated several hours at home whilst cutting it down into units to learn.

after rehearsing my monologue consistently yesterday, I performed it successfully in front of my tutor when it was requested to see what kind of progression we made with it, however I found out that I was targeting the wrong person as I assumed I was talking to my girl friend; however she wasn’t with my at the time but Deililah was which was a 12 year old who was about to turn 13.

I found out that Delilah has affection for the 21 year old lodger which ended up developing into something more bigger yet he tries to push her away with being upset and negative about everything that he’s done as If he’s trying to make it sound bad on purpose; as this helped me to easily work out that I should be playing it with a more vile type of style to push her away on purpose instead of remain sad all the time.

I would like to enhance on being able to perform my monologue with a more change between sad emotion as well anger throughout; I’m gonna do this through practising at home or to another family member.

It was a couple of days before the performance day so we setup a audience for which in the end I performed it one final time in front of my class; so I ended up getting feedback that I don’t really put any other meaning or emotion with it but keeping it the same throughout as something could be felt in the beginning till the end and that I don’t allow anything to come through as If I’m holding it back, so I would like to improve on this by listening back to my recording over the day once I got home which then I can redo it but with a different approach.

I’m hoping to achieve this before next week.

It came to day of Headgate theatre for which I’d rehearse it several times after doing tech rehearsals throughout the day which I found it to be quite bothering as I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna mess up or not; so once I found out where I was standing I ended up performing it in front of the audience.

I found that overall I have been able to change it up from last feedback with various of changes in tone and tempo plus emotion when It came down to certain parts, where I’d use moments to procrastinate certain lines to give it the feel as If I found it very difficult to come out with it; however I felt some kind of connection with the monologue when performing it the final time but not as much and I would like to improve on my diction, clarity as well projection in future as I thought that I could’ve been more clearer on my choice of words.

I am going to do this through consistently repeating the b,d,g and p,t,k vocal warm ups as well my vowel rp sheets.

Monologue Research

I found out a small brief of information regarding what’s going on with the characters such as relationships and links between each person to help me develop how the character actually feels regarding the performance.

Image result for black and white swirl
This picture is to represent the emotional control of the character as he isn’t sure of what he actually wants.

Monologue Evaluation & Reflection

I found that the performance day for my monologue was rather successful due to the matter of being able to remain confident, however receiving the feedback that I wasn’t allowing my monologue to develop during the tech rehearsal, I found out that my commitment was quite applicable as it’s helped me to remain on top of my monologue; as my projection was well used throughout the monologue, however I reckon that one of my weak points that require developed would be my diction due to moments where I’d allow my words to stumble and mess up.

I’m hoping to achieve this by consistently using the vocal training methods that we’ve been given such as b,d,g and p,t,k; I would like to also be able to take my character research and development as I found that it wasn’t very powerful since I’d still get confused on how I should’ve played Daniel more clearly, such as my interpretation of his story and where he came from as I feel like I could’ve done more research into his background and how that developed who he is now.

Duologue

Duologue Practical & Context

We started on identifying what duo logues we wanted to perform which then Leah looked into several and one of them being Much ado about nothing which we selected “My Dear Lady Distain”, “The Party Scene” as these we’re quite difficult to understand such as the use of wording; so we then went into the small room to do several practice line rehearsals with one another without anything or actions whilst blocking the text.

I found the party scene to be quite difficult since it requires consistent movement and changes whilst inputting script development, I would like to be able to locate and work on duo logue by the next lesson so that I’m able to engage with learning something for the showcase; I’m going to do this by checking inside the library as well over the internet for any possible duo logues that could be performed.

In the next following week, I began working on more vocal rehearsals with my peer on giving some kind of element towards what was being said before we even got it up on it’s feet; so we decided to sit down and do a rebounding line rehearsal whilst I attempted to learn the lines whilst doing so which slowed down the process; as I would like to be able to utilize me skill for learning lines more effectively by practicing different methods over the weekend.

I’m hoping to do this within two weeks times by doing an ongoing consistent repeat of it.

In our next day we began looking into potential methods to locate what the duo logue or monologue was about such as where did the character from, who are they and why are they saying what it is being said; so my peer and me sat down discussing about our duo logue as we found out that it was far too short to be performed in the show case so we had check into several duo logue books to find possible materials that could be performed.

It seemed that we wasn’t finding anything that was possibly connectable or that gives the feeling to work on it ongoing throughout the unit so we went away to the library for which Leah looked over several duo logues leading us to discuss about them until we decided to do the The Last Witch, so we did a couple of lines from it to see whether it gave anything.

I found this duo logue to be more enjoyable for the purpose of how my characteristic range as well vocal range is suitable for Davy Ross who is an Officer that’s trying to get her to confess to everything that she’s done.

In the next session we can rehearsing The Last Witch for where I was experimenting with possible tones or approaches with when I’m speaking to her as I was coming off more friendly in the beginning than intimidating; I found this slightly difficult since I wasn’t getting any connection with the lines at the time due to being on copy for the script so I continued doing the lines whilst we blocked the script with actions to create some kind of motivation.

This helped me to develop a connection with the character and how I was saying my lines since there would be certain parts for which I would grab her hair and pull her violently towards me whilst asking a question, I found out in the beginning that I pulled it far too gentle as it was suggested that I do it slightly more firmly allowing her to move with it at the same time to give it the motion; so I would like to improve on my physical side of acting by watching possible clips or getting guidance on how to perform it safely without causing any kind of harm towards my partner.

I’d like to improve this over several weeks times.

In today’s lesson we went over our script with finishing the blocking, so we then decided to proceed with more rehearsing as well slow motion practice when it comes down to the action of me interacting with my peer through careful and planned pulling and pushing actions. I would like to be able to portrait an aggressive character through physical interaction more clearly, as I would like to achieve this by doing research into way’s of doing it safely.

During today’s lesson we began cutting down the duo logue as well crossed off certain parts that didn’t make sense for which I did this to help me take more easier notice of how much I needed to learn left before the deadline; I found it the final rehearsal day that my due logue notes was out of date with my peer so that we haven’t been communicating as clearly therefore this was causing possible dangers for the actions and preparations that we have put into place to avoid them, so we’ve been given feedback to change it to using proximity as the advantage of dealing with the scene.

I’m planning to improve on this by doing a quick drafted rehearsal for my approach of how I am going to use proximity to interact with my peer on stage, as I would like to do this before Monday’s performance at Headgate Theatre.

I’ve kept an ongoing consistent monitoring of my progression throughout the final unit as for example where in the beginning my time management skills was rather off in the beginning as I would like to improve on this in the future by organizing and keeping track of scheduling between my deadlines; as I would also like to highly enhance my interaction with my peers as I’ve been second guessing myself on an ongoing basis throughout some of my selections where I should be attempting to try it instead.

I am hoping to improve on this in time to come by forwarding my ideas more clearly instead of concealing it or keeping it quiet as it could be applicable towards my contributions.

As I have advanced with most of my commitments as I’ve been going through my final unit such as sensitivity towards my peers such as each others contributions as well my given feedback which is an ongoing consistency and has helped me to acknowledge possible changes and experiments that I could’ve done.

Duologue Evaluation and Reflection

It came down to the performance day for which we did several tech rehearsals before going on stage to perform as I let my second guessing get the better of me by over thinking my lines at the time which led me to standing there during the tech run through; as I allowed it to get the better of me therefore letting myself drop lines.

We then went on stage for our part which I was able to successfully deliver all my lines which then I improvised a part in my paragraph to quickly recover from the line I forgot instead of “You couldn’t charm a skin of milk off of a pan could you?”, “You couldn’t woo a skin of milk off of a pan could you?”; I reckon that one of my strengths for this day was my improvisational skill set to make a quick recovery regarding forgetting my lines and remaining confident for the official performance as I also was capable of keeping committed to push myself into rehearsing more.

I found out that one of my weaknesses could be that I would end up second guessing myself as well that I would over think whilst being on stage and that sometimes I let myself acknowledge that the audience we’re there making it slightly more difficult for myself.

If I was able to redo it, I would commit more time into scheduling my rehearsal periods for then, I would’ve isolated some of my time equally for actioning as well lines.

I’m hoping to improve on reducing the amount of second guessing by experimenting more often in front of my peers as well by learning a new monologue and then setting time schedules for when I’m going to do it which by then I am planning to do a dead lined performance at home or to friends I know.

I was able to improve my quality of creativity when developing a character since the day I did The Crucible; as I wasn’t so confident with my selection as well that I didn’t do a clear analysis or synopsis on top of The Crucible for when I performed it due to leaving my rehearsals rather late, as I was able to keep up with my past goal of improving on my scheduling and techniques for working on expressions, vocal range as well bodily actions and reactions.

Taming Of The Shrew Facts

#MeToo, the campaign against sexual harassment and abuse that swept through Hollywood

Improvisation Second Term

07/01/19

We started today with splitting into two opposite groups for which then is when we was able to present what we’ve been doing previously before having Emma, as we continue through doing different exercises as well the ‘worst thing to say’

We moved straight onto doing some kind of status based game for which showed me that the shouting person isn’t always the one with the highest status.

I found this to be easier then a lot of exercises that I’ve done over the past as I use to assume that being angry was raising the volume of my voice, however It also involved change of tone; as I would like to be able to have a much more convincing control over the use of aggression on creating a more developed characteristic instead of forcing it out.

21/01/19

For today we begun doing the freeze game for which is where we can freeze the scene at certain points as it’ll remain of two duo’s that would keep the scene going without stopping until someone wants to step in for which where someone will cause freeze and the taking there place; however this time more people would stand up and addition to it which made it difficult since it would steadily get out of control and always result out to be some kind of shoot out scene.

I found it to be rather noisy in the end as no one was really listening to anyone else which led the scene to be without context or story at all, it was just people screaming or shouting and too many actions which would cause confusion.

This rapid change into a huge group of fights or conflicted scene’s would show a lack of ensemble teamwork which was a good way to see where we would usually be at as a team.

As soon as we was done with that game we went straight into the jumping in saying something game with a twist instead of waiting for one of us to go in we would be called upon but this time with the censor turned off but within a controlling level to enjoy it as well at the same time maintaining control.

I found it slightly difficult to think of answers to something bad to say at a funeral, as I kept over thinking what to say; as I would like to improve on this by practicing to let my mind say whatever comes to mind at the current time.

28/01/19

We started today off with a couple of warm ups preparing our limbs as well parts of body for performing which then we started off with the freeze game once again but this time we was put into two halves allowing it to be more controlling instead of one huge group at the end; This was more effective since we didn’t end up into one huge bunch and that everyone was listening with a strong sense of awareness being aware of the freezes and of others.

It was interesting to see that we also begun with a new type of game called which involved quirks but in a different way as this time it would be stuff like addicted to ankles.

As we then did a sales kind of show being given certain objects to sell or advertise it in an entertaining way, I was given some sort of remote which I decided to sorta target my audience pointing at people as well making up plenty of excuses to sell it which was very funny however challenging since I had to look further then it being a simple remote.

In today’s lesson we started off with the freeze game again and then moved straight onto the sales game watching other people doing it was very entertaining since I felt like I was watching people actually attempt to sell products and that they was attempting to convince me how amazing that object was trying to ignore the fact that It was something simple to sorta welcome the idea of something enjoyable.

As the class did the Stand, Sit and Lay down game which was hilarious to watch since it seems so simple but when I tried it before it’s actually rather challenging since you gotta make up consistent reasons and conversations to swap positions and I still was never able to perform a full on non stop changing attempt at this game; so some point in the future I would like to do something similar to this in attempt to challenge my confidence as well response/reaction time.

I was then able to watch a couple of class peers do the human props which made me die laughing since I was watching Ethan get thrown around as a prop, however I found it really clever for how he responded in being a prop and how the others used him as a prop; It intrigued me since it helps with encouraging creativity for when it comes to creating a scene with one other person and that I never took into consideration that the other person can be used in infinite different ways of creating an endless changing prop.

25/02/19

In today’s class session was the human puppets which was slightly different to human props since they was allowing the puppeteer to control everything being the expression, movement and how they’d respond to situations and others throughout the scene; this looked very challenging from my angle as I’m rather use to having control over myself and not ever felt like what it feels like to be controlled against what you prefer to do.

11/03/19

In today’s session me and my group have decided on the show game which is where we select a genre/show and the two groups of pairs that get called out of the audience will be taking place within that chosen selection such as Horror and then a group say’s bathroom the opposite group would have to create a horror based around the bathroom.

there was a lot of corrections as well decisions over one another during this as everyone wasn’t easily satisfied over one choice therefore we finally came to the conclusion of agreeing upon this game.

04/03/19

In today’s lesson me, Tanisha, Chloe was able to continue our game decision as Leila also joined our group therefore making it easier to addition to our idea for which the teacher/person at the current time who Is in decision or observation of the performance is able to state a genre, show for the selected groups of pairs to perform; so for example If they said romance then they’d have to improvise a romantic scene.

The idea of people being called in and out though caused a heavy level of confusion as people who couldn’t or didn’t have the chance to think on their feet would be called out for someone else to take the spot which just caused mass confusion; as it also put too much pressure on them therefore making it very difficult to come up with ideas, I think for next we need to be able to develop more clearer instructions as well not to over complicate the game.

I would like to be able to present something in the future such as my side of a presentation for a game.

11/03/19

For today’s lesson we was able to witness another group that prepared their game for presenting today which was by Frankie and Chloe, as the game was called ‘ sweetie treats’, the whole goal of this game is so two selected participants have to run as fast as possible up to the wall and the first one touching the wall gets rewarded with a prized sweet which then they’re given a random scenario; as soon as this situation has been given they’d have to act it out correctly.

The one person that Is able to keep the scene alive the most would also get rewarded a sweet, however sometimes people wouldn’t get a treat and the other would get both and yet sometimes there can be stalemates between the both.

I found this game to be rather fun to try out since it encourages engagement due to the hosts having a strong level of enthusiasm as well encouragement and respect to making the game enjoyable.

It was interesting to watch Who’s Line Is it anyway, as they do mass amount of different activities such as Sit Down, Lay down and stand up.

18/03/19

During our lesson today we finally came to a group agreement on what games we will be performing in front of the audience as we was then split into two different groups, as we then selected exercises to perform; It was very nice to know that everyone was satisfied and on the same page for agreeing upon games.

We was then given an improvisation order for what we will be presenting as a group and when.

Improvisation presentation running order.

Bradley and Leilamay

–          We began this term by looking at the improvisational exercises used in the TV show ‘Whose line is it anyway’

–          Whose line is it anyway is a TV show which started in 19?? and was a regular Friday night entertainment show,  involving four contestants who would take part in various improvisational exercises.

–          These exercises split into two main categories those that were reliant on ‘Words’ as the motivator for the comedy.

–          And those that are centred on ‘Physical’ stimuli to motivate the comedy.

–          We have decided to demonstrate two of these exercises for you today.

–          The first exercise we are going to show you is based on ‘Word’ Stimuli and it is called ‘Worst things to say’.

–          In this game, participants will be given a situation and they need to comment on the worst thing to say in that situation.

–          For this demonstration Bradley is going to be joined by Chloe, Leah, Luka, Chelsea, Tony, Tanisha and Abigail.

–          They will all take it one by one to complete  the following statement:

1 – Worst thing to say on public transport.

2 – Worst thing to say in an exam.

3 – Worst thing to say to a lifeguard.

4 – Worst thing to say in a public toilet .

Abigail and Tony

–          The next exercise we are going to show you from ‘Whose line is it anyway’ is called ‘stand up, sit down, lay down’.

–          This is a physical motivation game where three participants will take part and improvise a scenario.

–          However they must keep track of who is doing what, as there must always be one person standing, sitting or lying down in the scenario.

–          This game needs quick thinking and tons of energy, to maintain the physical comedy.

–          We are going to demonstrate three scenarios for you.  The first three people to take part are: Leyla, Leilamay, and Georgi.

–          The next group to try a scenario will be: Ethan, Chloe R and Poppy.

–          The final group to try this out will be: Lily, Frankie and Amy.

1 – A ‘who did it’ murder mystery.

2 – Divorce counselling.

3 – A hospital waiting room.

Poppy and Lily

–          For the second part of the term we worked to create our own improvisation games inspired by whose line is it anyway.

–          We decided that games which were reliant on physical motivators were often the more difficult to do.

–          We worked in groups to come up with a number of games such as ‘The Physical Machine’,

–          ‘The miming scenario competition’

–          And ‘The Lead with your body game’

–          We are going to demonstrate two of the games that we created in groups

–          The first game is called ‘The word transfer game’ and will involve Frankie, Brad, Chloe B, Conner, Ethan, Leah, Tanisha and Luka.

–          The first group will be given a scenario to improvise, we will then ask them to freeze. Whichever word they freeze on will then become the word that the next couple will need to start their improvisation scenario with.

–          It’s really important that the participants stretch their vocabulary and use really descriptive and uncommon words.

–          Let’s have Frankie and Bradley to go first.

–          Chloe B and Conner are up next.

–          Ethan and Leah are next.

–          And last – Tanisha and Luka.

1 – Sneaking into a movie

2 – A weightwatchers meeting

3 – OAPs waiting for a bus

4 – Having a makeover

Frankie and Chloe B

–          The second game that we would like to show you is called ‘Number run impro’

–          This game can involve the whole class.

–          However we are just going to show you five demonstrations

–          The rules are – the class is split into two groups,(Divide Group – 1: Abi, Leyla Leilamay, Brad, Ethan, Connor, Georgi, Lily. 2: Tony, Chloe R, Amy, Leah, Luka, Tanisha, Poppy, Chelsea)  each of the members of the group is allocated a number (GIVE OUT NUMBERS)

1s – Abi/Tony

2s – Leyla/Chloe R

3s – Leilamay/Amy

4s – Brad/Leah

5s – Ethan/Luka

6s – Conner/Tanisha

7s – Georgi/Poppy

8s – Lily/Chelsea

–          Firstly we will provide them with a scenario

–          Then we will call out a number – the two participants whose number is called out must then run to the wall and start the improvisation

–          As an incentive there will be a prize for each of the participants who touch the wall first.

–          So here we go, is everyone ready!!!!

–          The scenario is…….

–          Number…..

Numbers to be called out: 1 2 3 7 8

1 – A Parking officer is giving out a ticket.

2 – A nightmare customer in a furniture shop.

3 – One person realises they are afraid of heights when on a rollercoaster.

4 – An unhappy customer in a hair salon.

5 – Two parents comparing their children outside the school gates.

Leila and me discussed in our spare time to decide upon who is doing what and then we finally agreed upon the following which Leila sent me.

25/03/19

In today’s lesson we finally went over our group run through order which then we was preparing on performing, however I went into the small room to start rehearsing what exactly I was gonna say and how; I was over thinking it heavily which then Leila came in supporting me which then we did a couple of practise run through’s.

As soon as we went up to perform out part Leila and me was able to perfectly deliver our part which I forgot one small part due to overthinking it, however she quickly covered in for me and then we quickly did responses for the worst thing to say, as I found this very fun.

Everyone else successfully deliver there roles throughout the examination which was rather great until It came up to the part where I have to do my piece with Frankie and that It looked absolutely funny and that It made everyone laugh as well, I was grateful for being able to do this task with everyone.

If I was able to improve on something I would’ve wanted enhance my qualities as well confidence for certain parts since I tend to overthink certain thing’s.

Movement Second Term

04/01/19

Starting off with today’s lesson we had already started to begin with exploring the morning warm up to get all of our limbs into shape ready to work, as we then began to explore the Suzuki stance as this was produce down in Toga somewhere in Japan; a male called Tadashi Suzuki and aims at assisting actors to increase the level of awareness of their bodies as this helps with mainly using the core part of the body.

It’s been inspired within martial arts as well that he’s created a gree style theatre next to a massive area of land therefore creating a competitive challenge for actors to deliver and oppose with views.

The exercise we began to learn was to do with three different poses which represent some sort of iconic hero movement as within a battle such as Greek Friezes and statues (Crouching)

The first position relies on a passive/neutral squatting – centred; as the second position is more of ‘battle’ which is where you’d squad further down with some sort of stance to the arms and the final third position is when the knee’s are still squatting yet we are on our tip toes with a different stance.

I found this exercise to be extremely combating since it would easily drain me as you’d have to put so much effort into it otherwise you wouldn’t be able to get any kind of feeling or benefit out of it; however no matter how strong my leg strength would be It would drain me rapidly and I found it extensively hard when it came down to holding my position whilst someone else gently pushed on me.

we then moved onto doing something more ritualistic which was rather inspirational as it opens my views to other methods of creating a more sacred based performance and how I would come by doing that with such synchronicity or coordination, I had to embody some sort of worshipper who’d follow the ritual no matter what any free bystander would say as I would’ve had to select some sort of object to carry around treating it like a book of jurisdiction.

I mentioned the book being a book of life and had to treat it like I was holding ‘gods’ trust with me no matter where I stood as If I was on some sort of sacred landing.

11/01/19

We started off with warming up again in the morning however this time we was exploring some sort of Warrior position with Yoga and I found this very relieving my body as we would take stretching to a length that I’ve not gone before.

We continued exploring the Greek Theatre as was asked to research some facts into it which Is where I put a bunch of pictures together regarding positions which also captured several stances that I was able to use for today’s performance on Suzuki stances.

Someone mentioned about the Greek amphitheatres are built in an extraordinary way that you could hear any kind of small noise no matter where you was at the place as the Greeks would set it up in a certain way for landscaping as the chorus would orchestrate whilst the actors did the performances for the scenes as they also wore different masks as most of them aren’t that appealing for the fact that they could be made with several things such as hairs, fur and it would also then allow them to explore in depth with the movement whilst the mask say’s it all with the movement involved.

We separated into two different groups then creating a group piece of moving freizes which we used pictures from our research to help us explore the movement with stances as we was given a short period of minutes to develop something to perform and whilst we was doing which then we had to put the masks on when ready to perform as this would give us blank like states allowing the body to be the message deliverer at the time to the audience who was the peers in the room.

Once we done our pieces we showed them off to one another, however it was interesting because it was extremely quiet whilst everyone else observed and I wasn’t at all concerned or bothered what I was doing or who I was at the time since the mask meant I was someone or something completely different therefore giving me the freedom to try out anything possible at the time.

As we was doing our piece Gemma would be reading some sort of information from the book whilst we performed and even If we ran out of movement we would have to keep going till she stopped, so I continued to improvise steady yet relaxing movement with my peers to help to collaborate as a group piece.

For the final bit me and Tony joined as a pair for where I was of somewhat resembling a happy based person who was giving a gift to tony as he was playing a greedy big sized character and that no matter at what time he would take the opportunity to snatch or even eat something.

I found this really funny and enjoyable at the same time since we could exaggerate as much as we wanted whilst exploring the whole goal of the pair grouping by turning our faces into masks.

18/01/19

We continued with doing the warrior yoga pose for a morning warm up routine, yet for today’s session we began with going further with it such as introducing ourselves with the ground by exploring more core based work as this enforced warming up with my muscles even more and that today we explored further by pressing everything practically together whilst keeping the core centred again.

I’d have someone that was next to me being Poppy to gently nudge me or even push me slightly from each angle to see whether I would move and finding out that I wouldn’t move unless I was pushed from my left side therefore noticing that for next time I would like to increase my capabilities with holding my stance more securely.

We took this into a stomping motion now following up with a repeated action of doing so as I found this hard due to the fact of hitting the back of my foot against the floor or by doing it far too hard, so I had to make sure that my foot was flat before doing so each time and from there we added in some sort of gliding motion to one direction then repeating it in the other direction allowing us to have a steady motion.

once this was done it was added that we had to go on our toes for a couple of seconds then releasing and we had to do this every couple of seconds often near the end of the cycle and as we finished learning the several patterns we then moved onto developing this into a coordinated cycle so everyone had to do it as a huge group instead of doing it individually as when was informed that Macbeth would be the piece that we will be producing our work towards.

25/01/19

We started today off once again with the warrior yoga posing exercise however I found it more difficult each day since I would feel rather fatigued or drained from the last week of sessions with movement and yet I was willing to try each time since I considered it to be interested as I like to remain active and moving.

So we went over everything repeating as of last time but this time for those who was absent or wasn’t around for it was observing to catch up on what was missed out and then we got into groups for which we did a sliding walk motion with the suzuki stance and I found this to be extremely difficult due to centring correctly; I had poppy holding onto my hips whilst I pushed through to the end yet feeling like I had some huge stone wall holding me back or some kind of weight.

This was easily draining me full knowing that I was willing to push through it no matter how hard it go, I could feel my legs going slightly exhausted after doing it a couple of times back and fourth which then Chloe, me and someone else was made to start off from a certain point and was observing demonstrating pushing ourselves to the point however I was absolutely finished at the point as we finally finished the exercise we was turned into some kind of parallel groups which we got into line stances with coordination we began doing battle stances with counts leading it to be rapid and quickfire.

“Blasted Heath, Wind and Rain”

We finally got into groups to choreograph a piece as I was with Chloe, Frankie and someone else where we made some kind of scene to do with the harsh winds.
so I contributed the idea of using the Suzuki stance to example off the horrific wind as it would put a tole on the body yet easily show that the winds we’re strong

01/02/19

Today’s lesson we started off with producing our first part of the performance for which it was based around the dead being arisen, I was paired up with Leila, Georgi, Ethan and Frankie as we came up with the idea of creating a rather glitch like jerk based movement which Is where I laid close to Ethan thrown on my top seemingly like I was flat dead against the ground; as we would work as a team during this by rising up from different moments and upon touch with on another causing a chain reaction.

I tried exploring it further by pushing myself far too much and this led to be twisting my leg which then I stayed to observe the rest and then I was sent away for the day.

08/02/19

I was capable of barely participating but taking it carefully without doing anything over exaggerated for which I had to work on my sword fighting scene with my partner where it was a 1,2,3 block and then a 1,2,3 handle bash knocking me back and this was a consistent repeating allowing us to keep a steady response as well an easy cap of what was happening.

It was added up that everyone then joined in doing the battles scene as this helped by making it into a larger scaled battle, as our swords kept colliding it felt nice to image the collision points every time my partners and my sword stopped against each other helping me get a grasps of what it felt like when my sword was stopped.

As we finished up on the sword fighting we moved straight into working on our army march which Chloe was decided to be at the front leading us with a small collection of sequences for certain stepping patterns before turning which then we all got split into Lady Macbeth and Macbeth as I was playing LadyMacbeth and Chloe who was my partner is playing Macbeth; we’d steadily walk towards each other from each side of the room with interaction with ourselves such as me washing my hands heavily till we meet up in the middle getting into a surprise hug slowly sinking down onto our knee’s.

As soon as we finished that me and Chloe got into a pair creating a rather delicate feather like duo as we would in a couple of steps move forwards at the same time for which I’d welcome her onto the seat grasping the arm gently convincing about the murder idea and then I’d spin and hold my position as I found this really pressuring because of the time I’d have to hold myself up.

01/03/19

We continue with doing a full on practice with our scenes by rehearsing each part for which when it came down to me doing the chair duo with Chloe again when I’d lean over holding the position I found this painfully hard for which then It was suggested by Gemma that I could do something else such as sinking onto my knee’s or down the sides of the chair instead of making it difficult for myself; I took this advice on board as I didn’t have enough time to experiment any other methods since I tried holding the chair as well but it made it too hard.

We then proceed with rehearsing other parts of the movement piece for in the end we did a small run through which certain bits took longer than they should’ve done in the first place

As we then finished up on rehearsing which took longer than expected once again.

My group agreed upon the idea of Millie being King Duncan for which then we with a steady idea with a team lift on Millie and after that a coordinate dance around as we would then enter a lined bow leading up to the finishing point.

15/03/19

In today’s lesson we had a recap about what the running order as well reminder of the story which was a good idea since I wasn’t able to remember It all and then we moved straight into practising our party scenes as well timing between scene transitions.

We had some team members that wasn’t in today for the lift so we had to improvise a new method of doing the Millie becomes Duncan part instead of raising her up so I ended up going to the front so I can gently slide her down as they raised her which created a soft sliding moment and it made it easier.

We had the idea of facial expressions into the party scene which also made it seem more creepy; as the year two’s also showed what they’ve created for the performance so we could see how it would make a difference as well be added into our play.

22/03/19

In today’s session we began doing a straight on run through with no stopping points to ensure that everyone knew what they was doing until it came up to the party bit that I was involved in which was the second party, I was also suggested to be the guy that runs up the stairs upon seeing the body, I would run alerting everyone “Raise the alaram” which would trigger the next scene.

Once we finally stopped the performance we moved straight into our chair duo’s again to clean up the final parts of our performance leaving us time to finish polishing anything else that we wasn’t sure on.

05/04/19

We finally did a full on rehearsal before finishing which then we moved straight into getting ready for our performance as we then completely a full successful run through, I felt like it went completely amazing, however If I was able to change or improve on something; I would’ve liked to explore further with the soft movement such as when I was sneaking around.

Contemporary Second Term

07/01/19

During today’s lesson we started off with a couple of warm ups which then lead us into learning about Mike Bartlett as will be aiming towards investigating and learning about his play which is called ’13’.

This performance is based around the war in Iran as it’s involvement is with Britain and the USA is set in 2011, as it’s based around being a modern life play.

as we ended up joining into groups which then we was to look into information about him and which we all then started to share with one another.

Mike Bartlett is 38 and was born in Oxford, he’s written around 20 different plays and 5 various drama’s on television; he has also won 3 Bafta awards.

14/01/19

In today’s lesson we begun reading into the first of 13 which was rather tricky as I wasn’t able to easily understand the whole concept of scenes and not to mention the points behind each bit, as then was given a chance to identify some information about individual characters which was quite hard.

as it seems the theme’s are based around war, religion and politics yet the characteristics and goals of each character was rather hard to identify as I found it difficult to understand who they we’re and why they was doing it?

Once we finished with reading through the first act we had to split up into groups then creating notes per unit of the story as it was broken down into twelve parts just like we did before with ‘The Crucible’ by creating some sort of a synopsis; as we was also asked to do ‘Act 2’ for homework to bring in next week.

I would like to enhance my skill for identifying the context of the story as I found it slightly more difficult to understand by breaking it down; I am hoping to improve this by next session through practicing breaking down selected past monologues

21/01/19

In today’s lesson we returned with our Act 2 synopsis which then we started off with more normal day warm ups with helping to develop our focus and then we started to read through the second act of ’13’ as this was to ensure that everyone within our class has completed the assigned task that was given to us last week as well so we can pass information to one another via the board.

We’ve been told that If we wanted to look into it at our spare time that there was a performance uploaded somewhere or some possible way to watch a bunch of professionals who have already executed such play.

before next week we’ve been assigned into pairs to create and develop a successful performance based on ’13’ and why we have chosen this as I was paired up with Leyla and a couple of other peers for which we agreed upon that I will be doing the Staging.

we looked over the third act breaking it down into units as well as then we started to discuss as a class about what we think all of the act’s are about and what’s happening which then we did an overall synopsis from Act I to Act III

28/01/19

Today’s lesson we was ready to perform our presentation to the class as I was working on the staging for Act I and how It would transition between another as well what would be the triggering point for certain parts of the scene.

I could’ve gone simpler with this as there’s a lot more I could’ve done; as I was only able to think of the basic staging and how they’d begin or where they would stand as well props which was colour coded.

I’m hoping that some point in the future that If I get a chance I’ll be able to create something much more advanced as one of the peers did which was a colour coded interaction sheet which connected all the relationships, characters together in some way as they broke down every bit about them and that I would also like to develop further on with being able to deliver a much more successful presentation.

11/01/19

In this lesson we went through the final part of ’13’ which still caught me off guard as I couldn’t still piece most of it together since one point it jumps from a very passive based play to something much more sinister like based around bad events and also lawyer cases.

I found out that I was still missing certain parts of the context via the synopsis so I had to improve on my analysis by going over it again through reading it from Act 1 – Act III

25/02/19

In today’s lesson we started to rehearse in our peers for our script as I was playing the lawyer as I was paired with with Leah who was playing my assistant and I found this rather enjoyable yet a challenge since I wasn’t able to get a strong grasp of the performance and how to set out the scene at all; so I decided to try and let it come naturally whilst rehearsing my lines.

04/03/19

In today’s session we started to look at our characters more in depth by doing doing an exercise which was produced by Stanislavsky, we had to find somewhere in the room opposite to wall which then we stood with our natural stance hip width apart; as we had to close our eyes and kinda image what type of person they are and what did they look like, what did they wear and how tall as well big are they?

I ended up thinking of the classical stereotyped suited worker such as a young skinny fairly nice suited guy with a tie and watch; so we had to attempt once more but try to explore the character more often to something we wouldn’t exactly expect to realise.

after trying again I ended up visualising a broad guy with brown plain shoes and a buttoned shirt, however he didn’t have the best of clothing neither hair style for fact it made me want to laugh somewhat however was interesting to imagine someone who I wouldn’t usually suspect to work as a lawyer or even business wise.

11/03/19

To begin the lesson me and Leah started to rehearse our scene as I wasn’t really getting any kind of vibe or even interesting feeling towards the language and how they spoke to one another; so I ended up finding it rather complex at the time to get a hang of finding a method to suited me or even helped with adjusting to the type of character or theme until I sorta resulted back to trying the walking back and fourth idea or even the method that we was taught in Matt’s lesson about choosing a word that gives the sentence or phrase a meaning.

So for awhile after giving a couple of practices it felt better which then we was trying to work out how we could even position ourselves through out the scene and what actions would make it feel much more comfortable or even understandable when coming to what’s being said such as “A toothbrush a new shirt and a double espresso, what’s his name?”

This made me assume that my character was doing some sort of listing towards his partner or colleague which made me come to a conclusion that he needed to played as If he was walking in with them or interacting with them some how as if he’s questioning about the requirements or even what’s needed such as reminding or even telling them what they need.

This sorta helped me to understand whether I was testing my colleague or not during the scene as I would be asking them certain questions one after the other as it allowed me to identify some sort of more bold personality for them.

18/03/19

During today’s class Emma passed us some kind of booklet with questions and facts involved on it about Mike Alfred which we had to get into pairs and start filling certain information out however some of the class was rather competitive which was sorta interesting as it kinda invited some sort of keen or goal for everyone to identify or challenge ourselves with knowledge to see how much we knew already.

I found this rather exciting as whether it was a competition or not we was still able to share off one another through different methods of identifying information which could be useful or even help us with further source about the elements were currently working on.

He has an interesting view for some reason such as mixing Brecht as well Stanislavsky which I thought wasn’t possibly easy since I would question due to the contrasting views on how you’d do the performances and that they had completely different individualised views for the audience when engaging and how to deliver messages.

We then started off with some intriguing improvisational scenes as I get paired with Chelsea and one of the scene’s was based around a Pub for where we was freely allowed to speak about anything life related and it felt completely natural since we’ve certain matters during life in common; so one of the conversations was about work and we’ve ended up with that one customer who is always demanding something or extremely rude so when we had the chat at the bar it made me think as If I was having a real life conversation with someone I just met.

the next one was to do with the bus shelter and this one was quite easy to adjust to since you’d naturally always wait for a bus that never shows up most of the time so we found it quite funny and enjoyable to do; however when it came to dealing with tickets on the train since we always assume that there will be conflict between the staff and passengers.

We was asked to also answer a couple of questions such as:

  1. Do you think these scenes were realistic ?
  2. Did you try to force the action ?
  3. Is it possible not to force the action ?
  4. Is it possible to be realistic in an unrealistic situation ?

I found out that only the train scene was rather force and that the others came quite naturally since we’ve all usually had something like work, shopping or something negotiable related to talk about.

25/03/19

In our final session for our performance we got to work on our scene’s which Leah and me decided to completely explore methods of performing it and how it could be staged and what happens if we played with the way the characters speak towards one another as well relations.

It didn’t look right at first so eventually Emma came around and decided to observe our scene as we performed it and so she gave off some advisable ideas such as what happens instead of me walking in and listing stuff, If I just simply sat on the chair facing towards my desk or something; a complete opposite direction from my assistant and at certain points, I would turn towards her.

This would only happen on moments when she would say something completely absurd or something that my character wouldn’t agree with and eventually the chair motion worked since I was steadily feeling a connection with my character for when it came to swinging in certain ways and adjusting how I sat down with crossed legs or one leg over the other.

I found it quite enjoyable and in the future I would like to be able to improve on my characters eye contact and connection with the other character more without moving too much by exploring further in with the sub context.

As soon as our assessment arrived when then got into our position and every flowed smoothly between me and my partner as I felt like there was an actual subject to speak upon and it was quite easily negotiable from my end since I could feel that I was trying to push a point across when needed, in the end I felt like that the performance was rather good and that If I could take it further on I would like to explore other ways of positioning the scene as well playing with the heights, levels and status.
