Voice Second Term

30/01/19

For today we started off with various vocal warm ups as one of them being B,D,G and P,T,K; I found these helpful since the beginning of the course as they’ve helped me to extend my pronunciation as well diction for when I’m performing my role during the plays.

I find these to be rather helpful, however when it comes down to doing the ‘g’; I always seem to be unable to do them quickly or even up to speed with most of the people as I don’t open my jaw wide enough for it therefore making it difficult for myself.

We then moved onto learning about some tongue twisters which wasn’t that difficult as I found it quite relaxing; the thing I enjoyed learning the most today was the:

Mah, Nah, Lah, Vah, Zah

Mor, Nor, Lor, Thor, Vor, Zor

Moo, Noo, Loo, Thoo, Voo, Zoo

May, Nay, Lay, Thay, Vay, Zay

Mee, Nee, Lee, Thee, Vee, Zee

06/02/19

In today’s lesson we continued with the same warm ups as repeated of last week but this time with the new one Mah, Nah, Lah, Thah, Vah, Zah which then some of us was selected weekly or at certain times to have ago at demonstrating the exercise such as the Diamond with projecting and using our residence voice more often instead of just yelling or shouting.

I found all these exercises to be enjoyable on a constant basis and that they’ve been helpful with enhancing my use of speech and control of how I use words or phrase sentences correctly as this helps with developing a more powerful scene.

13/02/19

We proceeded with our daily routine of doing vocal warm ups such as the diamond, BDG, PTK as well Mah, Nah, Lah, Tha, Va, Zah as this has been rather helpful until now and I would like to be able to improve on my use of breath control as some days it runs out rather too quickly; as I tend to think that either I haven’t gotten a full grasp of it yet or not, either way I would like enhance with controlling it more.

27/02/19

In today’s session we started off with some basic warm ups which then we moved straight onto learning about our RP Vowels as we was using these to help us with our diction as well correct use of vowels with certain words; As it’s also important for us to know our placement of the tongue as well lips when using our vowels so we can easily know when they’re needed and which one’s are correct throughout the scripts.

06/03/19

In today’s lesson we continued with our RP Vowel sheets by speaking out the quotes again as well understanding where the lips and tongue placement and how they react towards certain use of words or pronunciations for example ‘e’, ‘i’ and ‘a’, as it’s important to know where these are so we don’t pronounce anything incorrectly plus it helps with having a more variety of understanding for when it comes down to accents as well voice impressions.

This helped me with my farmer accent so I was able to mention certain words correctly that a general formal person wouldn’t say as it also made a difference to how my diction when speaking.

I would like to improve on being able to use a full paragraph with these vowels.

13/03/19

During today’s lesson we repeated with our vowel sheets as well more consistent warm ups whilst having some people to demonstrate it once again throughout the class during the morning session, as we then moved straight onto doing.

I didn’t understand these during the beginning session as I was assuming that I was pronouncing these already till I realised that it’s a little more complex then I thought as I was assuming that this was something we knew on a general basis and I found it more helpful once I got a further in depth understanding of the useful way’s of adjusting this to my daily practises at home as well college.

20/03/19

We was provided with a couple of more RP Vowel sheets leading us to have short and long vowels which I wasn’t sure of the difference until it was broken down that some was cut down and the other one’s last more longer then short vowels and that some may sound rather similar, however have a variety of differences which isn’t easy to identify when first pronouncing.

In one of the RP Vowel sheets there was a word that I assumed was pronounced correctly, since we had to locate the vowels in the quote, yet there was one word that I didn’t expect since it had a whole different pronunciation yet If we steadily said it or broke it down then we could easily find it.

I’d like to be able to improve on finding other vowels that haven’t been covered during class sessions.

27/03/19

During this lesson we continued with finishing off our vowels so we ended up completing a bunch of vowels: Long Vowels, Short Vowels and Weak Vowels, as these all help with various ways of pronouncing throughout our performances

Progression Advancement (What do I want to do after?)

Progression Routes and Courses for future advancement

I’ve decided to do research into aiming mainly for filming and TV regarding my first and main option for what I would like to advance to for my career; I am hoping to achieve this through doing an education at the following the place being Metfilm School London. I have decided to aim for BA (Hons) Screen Acting which entail of a two year course in working with the following of, (discipline, script, story, character and performance`).

It’s based around London on the other side up near Ealing, I’ve decided after looking into campuses to select this campus to stay at (replace me with campus), I have chosen this for the reason of the salary as well income for my travel as well upkeep to deal with my day to day schedule being food as well drinks. I would like to go as I would like to eventually end up participating in assisting with a mix of directing, script writing as well being able to develop my own piece of work and mostly to take part in loads of screen acting.

I’m hoping to on take this option as I know It will help me shaping my performance professionalism for when It comes down to developing the use of my screen skills as well characteristic representations whilst being recorded as I would like to improve on being able to maintain a steady professional behavioural level and being able to enhance my flexibility for when It comes down to exploring a more in depth amount of casting and characters as I would like to also be able to enhance my capabilities with dealing with different genre’s such as being comedy.

I have also decided to aim for Lambda as a potential option regarding the BA (Hons) Professional Acting course to aim for executing a successful developing on enhancing my characters research as well exploration for performance additions in expanding my acknowledgement for performance with an in depth knowledge regarding more techniques as well stage combat training as well for the purposes of being able to deliver an effective work effort with physical training.

I have chosen this for the purpose of aiming for my practical sided training over text based and that I would like to also improve on my context analysing skill sets to help me with having a more further understanding of what other potential meanings could be within the context as well sub text of stories as well performances.

I’ve looked into the reviews on the course that I have decided for Lambda therefore representing a highly valued opinion from most of the people who have attended or attempted to participate with Lamda regarding expectations as well progression with how much they tend to push the students to limitations as well with stretching with flexibility by experimenting as well trying much more advanced methods or techniques by stretching past what can already achieved by aiming for a higher level.

I have finally decided for my final option the Directing at University of the Arts London which consists of four years of Master Courses involved as this ranges with training the skill sets for being able to identify various materials that can be used to develop a successful by improving on having a more acknowledged understanding of being able to identify the goals and targets of creating a successful performance through being able to enhance skills.

I am planning to have this as my third option as It also helps with exploring the use of songs, devices, techniques as well preparations for when it comes down to directing through various means such as theatre, Television and Film which involves a heavy load of contextual self-study sessions through looking at various examples and improving my collaboration skills for being able to adjust my scheduling skills and planning with the technical side of the performance instead of engaging with the performance.

I thought this would be useful for myself as I would like to be able to explore with being able to develop and direct my own kind of performances by being able to identify ways of conveying my performances through developing and directing a structure setup for It as well being able to extract and apply the historic events effectively to create an effective performance for the purpose of delivering important messages such as bullying, history as well information that explains in depth through scenes as well movement and dialogue.

Acting – Second Semester

30/01/19

For today we started off with learning about one of the most well known practitioners called Bertolt Brecht as he’s known for doing something rather contrasting to what Stanislavsky used for techniques; as Brecht had a whole idea to display the character more over then becoming the character as soon as a piece of garment which then already explained who was the character at the current time.

This was known to be in relation to Epic Theatre (Form).

Brecht’s perspective for the audience was for them to easily understand as well remember that they’re watching a play instead of getting fully immersed into avoiding them to drift onto some sort of fantasy state of enjoyment; as the idea of this was to encourage them to be able to identify the message that was getting conveyed across at the current time.

It was closely related to social and political views instead of allowing the audience to go in a dreamlike state such as “I don’t want the audience to hang their brains up with their coats on the way in “.

The end goal that he wanted to achieve was that he was hoping that by the end of the play that the people would take away the idea of social political views by and apply them to the current lifestyle that they’re living instead of just casting it off like a fun show.

27/02/19

We started off with doing more warm ups which then we begun to get into a circle for which then we read over several short scenes from Fear and Misery of the Third Reich as we checked over a couple of scenes such as Farm feeds his sow and the Two Bakers, we all was allowed to take it in turns reading in for several different parts; I found them to be a lot easier then The Crucible as well Knot of the Heart yet I did prefer them over these.

I was assigned to work with Frankie with the Farm Scene for which then we got together to do a short practice with the time we had left over with the scene as I found it slightly more relaxing since it wasn’t repeated sentences after checking over the lines and it was just two paragraphs and several simple sentences allowing it to be far much more easier for me to rehearse.

As soon as I found out I was working on the farmer scene, I headed off home and once I got back I started practising my farm accent, so I decided to put on several farmer videos by repeating the line “Don’t you let my chickens out though” as this helped me remember how certain words was pronounced at the current time when talking as a farmer.

06/03/19

In today’s lesson we continued with more bodily warm ups as well coordinating exercises such as passing the bean bags as well certain limbs such as tilting the head side to side which helped with easing our necks to avoid any tightening or constrictions on when moving; as me and Frankie then got into our pairs beginning to rehearse our scene as I started to use my farmer accent which I was practising at home during the scene allowing me to get a better feel of the words whilst displaying the character.

In today’s lesson we also had to result back to what we previously learnt which was using ‘Gest’, as this was to help explain the characters motives and primary, secondary directives keep it as close as possible to the character instead of making a mockery of the character.

I found this rather tricky as at the time I couldn’t break down the full motives and intentions of the character through the context of certain parts such as the “Heil Hitler”, as this made me think he was afraid of the government.

I’d like to improve on having a better understanding of the story more clearly by my next session.

13/03/19

In today’s session we started off with some warming up activities like the usual basis; however we was able to have ago at something rather more interesting which was based on Fear and Misery The Third Reich, for which we all was in a circle whilst having ago reading over several different various scenes for example The Bakers, A farmers Sow and some others.

This was very interesting since we had to take a whole new perspective on giving it a shot as I would usually learn the lines and then rehearse prior to understanding the context of the lines for which then I would plan to develop the character on top of that, however this time It was more different since I tried learning it as I go feeling the difference of prior practice and then letting it come more naturally in attempt to explore the context as well sub context of the characters.

We then begun doing an exercise for which is where we select a motive or a intentional word such as complaining, instructive which; as I found this quite helpful since it helped me experiment with the characters motives during the scene yet I didn’t find it to be an enjoyable method since It also made it harder for me to carry on with my lines during the scene.

I didn’t this method to be exact directly to my rehearsals, however I did use it for my responses towards other lines but not for my starting lines.

Whilst I was at home I also went over the script more trying to identify the backstory as well context more clearly which helped by breaking it down with the method giving before which was to do with to do with action as well ‘Gest’

20/03/19

In today’s lesson, I was hoping to improve on my confidence from last week so me and Frankie jumped straight into doing more rehearsals, as she kept telling me to take my time as well that everything would be alright; as we kept working on the scene staging such as the placement with the kids for when I walk back whilst feeding the “Lena”.

I found the support from my peers great since they’re always supporting one another throughout the whole performance, as for today I was able to enhance my staging placement skills since certain parts my response for certain lines would be out of place or delayed as I was thinking to heavily on what I was gonna say at what time.

I’d like to improve my memory strength as well timing response for delivering my lines when needed so that the performance doesn’t look staged or purposely placed.

27/03/19

Today was our final lesson for a full run through so I decided to spend my time whilst being on the side to rehearse the rest of my lines as I had a discomforting feeling that I wasn’t completely solid on my lines, as I done a duo rehearsal with Frankie for which then I messed up once on them as I was thinking to heavily on the lines instead of feeling more freely making it difficult on myself, so we did one more final rehearsal practice before we got called back in for the run through.

I was quite confident that I knew them as we started the full run through; as I kept telling myself that I knew my lines which then It came up to my part after the other scenes went on through I was able to successfully perform it during the full run through which a couple of people laughed with enjoyment giving me confidence.

I found it very relieving to be able to perform it, however hard as I was still thinking on the lines partially therefore knowing that I didn’t dedicate enough time so in future to improve on this I will be spending any of the free time I get to run over my lines more clearly.

03/04/19

Today was the day of doing our performance as we started off with watching another class do the performance for which then we had to go on stage preparing for our performance as I had my hat placed underneath the chair which then one of my peers asked me to also have the phone ready to lean forwards on the day to help them out with the scene they was doing.

I was happy to do this if it meant helping with the scene and as the performance was going on I still couldn’t help to overthink my lines and how it would look or what happened If I messed anything up which caused me to forget one of my words during my line and this led to me overthinking that making it harder for me till I stood up for mine trying to convince myself everything was good.

As I stood up; I was able to remember the starting point for which I was able to deliver and kept it going till I blanked my overthinking as my peer quickly delivered the next line to make it look natural so I continued my lines knowing that I forgot a word so I skipped over it completing the sentence and line still fully knowing that I missed a bit out; as going back to what I learned during my improvisation sessions helped me recover from that point.

We had a moment to sit down to evaluate how we thought the performance went as I decided to reckon that it was alright, however that incidents like this happens to everyone usually once so not everything is perfect.

As for my future goal I’d like to be able to do another duo log but without messing up on any line off script.

A review of things I know to be true

The performance started off in a dream like state as the pace of the scene was rather slow and relaxed speed whilst Rosie is speaking steadily about how she was wondering around Europe freely exploring everything that she hasn’t even tried yet, the staging was set In a darkened surrounding the main role on stage which would be interacted from other cast In the background as they speak. It’s setup so that It’s all of her memories burdening her whilst they’re spoken freely, however I decided to speak about this as It shows a clear yet fluent flexible movement from them as If they’ve been put into the shadow which Is representing the brain and the motives of how the character Is feeling at the time which they moved onto background lights In different colours, blue to represent a sad memory.

They carried on with the clean transition which is when they started sliding In the tables as well chairs through coordinated pushing which they used to example whenever the timescale changes in showing that an hour or more has passed, this was done to keep the audience entrained as the performance was also compared for actual life events and emotions based around certain problems that occurred.

In the performances scene for when they was inside the garden which the father was using the leaf blower to clean up the garden, they’d be using a consistent level of enthusiasm as well level changes in motivation for when they kept assuming that she met someone which also resembled the motives that children go through for when they’re parents get over protective or even questionable therefore they was able to identify and able to apply that to the performances mood in the casts relationships and background context which lead to continuous falling out’s or moments when the statuses would change throughout the scene for when a certain person accepts the offer as they’d back down allowing the other character to win over the argument for example Rosie with not wanting to explain as of yet for what she went through whilst being cheated on.

I found the performance to be performed very well due to the matter that each of the lines we’re pronounced with a strong level of diction and that every bit of movement during the moments between each person and engagement has reasoning throughout the performance for example the moment when they all interact with Rosie during Narration as they move her around and lift her up for certain lines as it was a continuous on going change of scene’s, she would be allowing them a full level of freedom on controlling where she was being moved to as this shows that each of the actors/casts are even used as a figure.

It was very interesting for when it came to the parts of climax which Is when they would slowly build the scene up to a breaking point of bad news for then It would speed up giving a fast paced yet cross purpose during arguing, this Is so they can get points of argument across as well engaging separate thoughts and problems across which eventually built up causing everyone to split up one by one, as this would cause a greater problem and It was effective towards the audience as it was performed effectively such as the use of emotion which was presented very clearly.

I found it to be very emotional for which I was able to feel an attraction towards what was happening such as break ups and that certain plans ended up adding to a huge problematic issue which was the mother who crashed and passed away in the hospital which brought everyone back into a strong reunion.

We understand that you based the performance around a real life crisis that could or have potentially happened In reality and that It’s representing a family that have put as much dedication into the their next generation which eventually ends up breaking down and that they used certain techniques throughout these moments to emphasize the conflict at the time as well event to make It something much larger.

The use of the lighting as well shading to make It even more dramatic such as the darkening for certain parts for when they gave dialogues about what’s happening or Is going to happen during the moment which gives off a strong level of suspense and this helped with also delivering an affecting emotion to the audience so they’re able to feel bad or even concerned for the characters at the time which effectively worked as It was performed so close to realism that nearly most people could always or usually relate to anything throughout the performance as they split It up to expand on different individual issues that each character had to challenge and the fact that every family usually ends up going separate ways.

The performance was very constructed with a strong sense of structure such as the beginning, middle and the end as they have also evaluated the characters clearly to context therefore they used this to develop what the characters look like as well what kind of setting and theme they’re set around such as the performance being based around our modern generation In showing how strict our society Is as well the type of personalities each character has such as one of the son’s getting themselves into a dangerous job which led them to getting more desperate for money since they had the capability of reaching for It, however It wasn’t a good idea since this is easily tracked and that people In our generation now are usually doing It still such as dealing or stealing certain things that don’t belong to them such as mugging or robbing for their own needs with the selfish personality

I think overall it was very effective since throughout each act had consistent changes for each character emotionally.

The Crucible Essay

I have done some research into John Proctor for the purposes of helping me to apply it to my performance, so I did several different areas of research such as the background information on John Proctor and who he was and what made him out to be that type of person.
I’ll be relating resources to help me with also having a better understanding of how to develop my character during certain scene’s such as who he dislikes and why and what’s causing him to react differently towards Elizabeth.

I have chosen John Proctor for research as I found out that he’s a thirty year old male who has dealt adultery on his wife which is Elizabeth, as he immigrated to Massachusetts which lead him to being a land owner and that he was a farmer who owned the farm land.
It was interesting when John considered himself to be shamed and lost to God due to having an affair with Abigail leaving him to being unable to forgive who he is; he was a very sociable open minded person who would widely support people he knew who got accused for the wrong reason whilst going through any circumstance to gain vouches for Giles Corey and Elizabeth.

I’ve chosen the adultery affair as the issue for the family as it’s taken a horrible toll on how they’ve lived and seen each other, I’ve used guilt from the circles of attention for Proctor as he continuously looks back on what he’s done leaving him to dwell in his mistakes for having an affair on Elizabeth which leaves her doubting with disappointment being unable to forgive him.

John Proctor’s response to the witch trials was in anger as the people who closely knew would be getting arrested and setup for trial, however he took action after finding out that Elizabeth was to be placed on trial leading him to take every type of action whether it would put other people in danger or not, as long as he knew it was a possibility to attempt in freeing her from the trials of the court.
The actions of John Proctor lead everyone who signed or united with him in order of writing a petition with the following signed names leading them all to being put on trial for assisting a witch whether they were or weren’t a witch.

The court’s reputation was rather high therefore it was quite impossible to reason with the Judge leading yourself to a deeper hole or even having your own words turned against you which is what happened to Proctor in the end sentencing himself to having his name signed and used in order of his freedom yet at the price of his name and reputation for who he is and was. In the end of his actions of attempt to save those who he knew lead him to finally realising that the truth of being forgiven by was to confess the truth which he has been holding back for a long time until he finally mentions all of it in the court which eventually then he considered to rip up the piece of paper.

The research I’ve done into the Salem days around 1692 helped me to develop on how people thought or would attempt to fit in through any means such as accusing someone they’ve known if you was to be the slightest of accused or suspected in attempt or recovering yourself from being arrested or interrogated for the trials, people would mainly think about themselves and families and that it was very important to show up for the church as a Christian consistently whilst knowing your ten commandments.

If you’d be accused of witchcraft or of being in the assistance of a witch and you never went to the church and wasn’t that known you’d be considered to be someone who would likely get accused and that people, this helped me develop someone who would be quite religiously attached to what the bible and religion states therefore it being quite an isolated population leading to very strict rules.

I found out by doing further research that The Crucible was inspired by the McCarthy witch trial events which was based around when McCarthy came into power and started targeting people for communism reasons or whoever went against what he considered right would be classed as a communist.
Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crucible

For my Crucible context, I decided to highlight and break down certain parts to find out where they was located at the time and what the life style was around that current event within that moment.

I found out that they’re living up in Massachusetts since they started talking about It and that the place was a very small isolated village for where they all relayed each beliefs and path choices on some sort of religious view that the god and church/court would lead them forwards, therefore no matter what was right or wrong that the court would always consider themselves to be the speakers of god.

I found out from watching The Crucible Performance on Digital Theatre as well reading the script over by breaking down certain acts that there’s several different synopsis as well theories of the outcome such as a couple being that the group of girls in end either faked the whole act of being possessed by some kind of demon to get themselves out of trouble.

I have also found out that certain parts of the script would be rather calm when talking to each other and that the movement was mainly still unless It had meaning which most of the time It was just through eye contact; The use of eye contact as well transitioning from other performances was rather incredible as I was able to image different ways of staging certain parts such as the Act with the Court or the hanging which others used by adjusting the seating positions of the audience through placement around the hanging as If they was a part of It.

Job Roles

I’ve chosen the role of a Choreographer, they have several tasks to deal with such as engaging with the director in collaborating plans, as they would also be in charge of choreographing actions and scene based actions such as dancing, scene work.

They are the ones who are always auditioning the dancers and If they have any unique ideas or recommendations of other possible candidates they would be capable of informing the Director of any one that they could think of, as they also schedule dance rehearsals with the director, music director and even the Stage Manager therefore It’s important that the Choreographer Is always keeping them updated with any changes or rehearsal times.

They’d be the ones to teaching the performers the choreographer and how to perform It successfully with accurate feedback on how they could improve and what they could improve on as It’s crucial for them to ensure that the performers/dance who are learning the choreography are doing It correctly before the deadline. It would happen sometimes that they would select a dance captain which the Choreographer would train If essential for the show such as someone to be leading in front or throughout the scene/performance.

It’s quite important that they are always before proceeding that they communicate with the Director for the purpose of blocking as well queue of the scene’s which then they can relay that to the sound and light tech for the purpose of queuing and preparation ready for the tech run, however It’s very important that they attend production meetings to have an understanding of what’s needing to be done or for further instructions and plans on how they are going to set out the performance such as setup, theme as well requirements for those who are needing to be auditioned.

What’s required of the Choreographer?

It’s important that the Choreographer attends every single rehearsal with a consistent level of feedback as well observation for any kind of mistakes or acknowledgement of different types of dancing, therefore they must have a wide variety of dancing skills and flexibility with movement and a good level of organisation so everything is planned accordingly without being In a mess as It’s important due to having deadlines that are needed to being met. It’s crucial that they also have a good key element for coordination to be able to make sure that the choreography has a strong level of transitions for when It comes to movement and swapping over with different dancers or cross overs.

It’s also important that they understand the boundaries such as not having  the need of completely controlling the work of the artists such as directing the show, as In giving them time to evolve and work on the choreography and scene’s, they would have to also be very patient for when It comes down to the teaching method of how they deliver the work efforts as some methods don’t work for everyone as a lot of people have different learning tendencies and differences therefore It’s important that they are able to also communicate clearly with the performers to understand what’s going wrong and how they’re struggling with It so they are able to create a quick solution for any problematic issue.

The Choreographer Is also required being able to have a strong sense of the space and how they can use It and an easy understanding of the theme as well performance to even create any kind of choreography.

The Choreographer will also need a high level of disciple as well leadership skills In executing a strong routine as they are also In need a strong level of charisma especially for the reason of needing to repeatedly demonstrating the same routine with a clear constructive instruction and therefore they are always doing this till the performing or full run through therefore they have a small deadline to teach them as It’s a crucial part to Musicals as well most performances. If they’re creating a piece towards any kind of song or rhythm they would need to be able to understand the meaning of the song as well how to express that clearly throughout movement and how to demonstrate that to the performers with a clear explanation of how It expresses that emotions and be able to develop upon the past demonstrations, continuous development and progression with the performers.

Why are the Choreographers important and what else are they important for?
It’s important that the must maintain a strong level of entertainment for the audience as well the dancers/performers that they’re teaching, they would also have to discuss with the music composer for the purpose of selecting music as well sound for certain parts of the performance, It’s important that they are able to do accurate research regarding on that type of history as well the mood of people around the moment the song was written as well why It was written.

They would look for certain information such as what was the reason of them creating this performance or what kind of events or historic moments we’re occurring at that time period and how did this have an impact on the people and theatre, what was the dance style around that period and they would need to know the sequences as well patterns and different techniques for helping the performers with preparing before getting into the rehearsals as well be able to do clear set ups such as the best dancers in the front as well placement of all the other dancers and performers.
As a Choreographer they would need to have a strong connection with the creative side as well such as being able to freely develop Choreography on the spot to teach as well as being able to keep an ongoing connection with the following performers so they’re able to easily work together in modifying the Choreography continuously whenever a new idea comes along as It’s also up to them to keep the dancers and performers up to date.

Actor Profile

Actor: Michael Defilippis
I have chosen Michael Defilippis as he has various different skill sets as well experience such as a huge mix of accents that he could do for example, Italian, French, Kentucky as well Russian, he has also done several years Practising stage combat and dancing. I chose Michael as he was a Graduate from the Lambda School.

He Is rather experienced for when It comes to sports language as well such as Riding, Boxing and Basketball and that he has won three different awards of his time spent at Lambda from hard work, I decided to go with Michael for the following reasons of that he has had personal experience within theatre work, he Is rather versatile for when It comes down to casting as well play styles due to the previous experience of methods and styles that he’s been taught with performing and how to implement them into movement.

I found him to be rather inspiring for the purpose of that he is capable of using his voice which is around Bass and that he is capable of holding a firm conversation In different languages mainly being Spanish which could be useful for being able to get more opportunities within the industry of acting.

Michael has spent several years studying the style, structure and language of Shakespeare and not to mention other more advanced theme’s for performance that he’s capable of performing an ongoing steady paced sword play due to one of his awards being for the Technical Sword Winner and that he was also trained in doing several other based combatant performances and that he has competed In the improvathon  therefore he Is capable of holding onto a consistent scene of improvisation work around any type of theme or problematic scenario leading into a long stimulus.

He has been educated in various different styles of dancing as well taught on Choreographing pieces regarding scenes which shows that he Is capable of being very charismatic which I find rather helpful as It shows that they’ve been required to enhance the flexibility of movement, he’s varied between a couple of main casting roles throughout his time during Lambda, he’s resume show’s that he’s done in depth research into each type of character that he had to play such as a Servant to the Duke or Andrew. I found that he has a wide casting age as well and that he Is quite knowledgeable on how to differentiate multiple characters throughout history and that he Is able to give each meaning, It’s known that he has also won a Lambda BA (Hons) Professional acting award for his commitment and experience over the years he’s been at Lambda and that he Is able to grasp the concept of the contextual side of any theme or play no matter whether It’s Shakespeare or even classical since he has experience In also have an understanding for the characters background history as well the relations between each separate character and how to develop that into a story.

Improvisation

Week 1
In the first week of improvisation we was introduced to creative exercises by walking around the room pointing at random objects in the room giving them names which then we moved onto the harder versions which we was to point at the object but to say the name’s before it and then we had to say random thing’s that came to mind.

I found the second version slightly difficult as my mind would correct it randomly or think of the proper name, I’m going to improve on this by practicing on objects at home or around my street.
Week 2
In the second week of improvisation we started off doing warm up’s to help bring motivation as well concentration to the mind which then we moved onto learning about blocking and accepting, after doing this we moved onto the harder version which was to add onto it to create a small conversation which I found easier than before as it was simpler.

Week 3
In the next week of improvisation we started off with doing warm ups for a couple of minutes to energise the mind and then we moved onto doing having people go into an audience which certain people would go up with the class agreeing on a situation which then we had to deal with a problem which was suggested by the audience as I mine was that someone broke a leg which we had to find a solution for the problem.

Week 4

In today’s session we started off with doing a couple of warms ups once again such as body exercises and then we moved straight into getting in pairs which then as a pair of two we gave words which then our partner was to use them to create a story and then we would swap over. I found this exercise to be hard as it wasn’t easy to think of any seeding words to help my partner.

Week 5
In today’s lesson we started off with doing morning warm ups once again which then we started to look into doing high and low status which then we moved around the space exploring how we would express and evaluate how a low or high status person would show it visibly or act whilst being around others, we then got set homework to observe other people in the public and how they act around other people as well they’re friends.

Week 6
In today’s lesson we continued to work on different levels of status which then we was introduced to the status game where we’d be allowed to go up and be a pair in selling the apartment allowing one person to be wanting to move and the other interested in the apartment, however they was allowed to mix it up by liking or disliking the apartment by putting horrible issues in it. We’d keep it positive to start off with so a conversation could develop, I found this hard as it was difficult to just imagine rooms or area’s straight away.

Week 7
In the seventh week we continued with the high and low status for which we used the apartments setup again which then we would explore further into how anyone could be a low or high status whether they was a boss or not and how that could change up the scene with what’s on going, I found this difficult because of the fact that the scene would sometimes be harder to improvise or it would die down once we ran out of ideas.

Week 8
We did the high and low status scenes again but this time it would be at random locations allowing someone to come in choosing to start from low or high and the others would have to come in a bit higher than that by keeping it going without everyone being the same, I found this slightly harder as it wasn’t easy to read everyone’s actions whilst focusing on the scene.

I’m going to improve on this by continuing to observe other people who conceal themselves more often through actions and movement.

Week 9
For the ninth week we started to learn about the techniques to improve on keeping our scenes alive such as the absurdity curve, item obsession, over exaggerative emotions and an items that does not long, we used these during the improvised scene’s help with keep it alive as soon as we started to run out of ideas, such as the sun inside of a bed room or a lap which shouldn’t belong inside. I found this to be helpful as it helped me with keeping my scene’s alive by keeping me from running out of ideas.

Week 10
In today’s lesson we started off with learning about planting seeds which then we moved onto discussing that these would either lead us coming back to them some point which sometimes makes it unpredictable for the audience as they don’t know whether we will come back to them, I found this rather difficult due to the matter that it was rather difficult to remember what seed we planted if it was unplanted and left for too long.

Week 11

We started to go in depth about learning the scenario’s and how to develop a successful structure for creating and leading a scenario as they have to involve a beginning, middle and an end as well a reason of why the protagonist/main character is going or doing this, this was quite helpful as it helped me with understanding how to start my improvised stories.

Week 12
We started off with learning our subject as well scene for the Christmas show case which then we had started to improvise/experiment with creating something along the lines of Santa sitting in a chair as he would interact with the kids who sits on his lap as well the table with the Christmas jokes, we’d work on putting a twist to it, I needed to improve on the comedic side of how my character felt during the scene such as him being more negative and grumpy as if he’s questioning why he’s even there.

Week 13
We continued improvising more of the Christmas show case as I took in the feedback from last week and started to explore my character more with complaining about the Christmas role as if he hates being Santa since everything seems to go wrong all the time or that he’s given up dealing with kids who just make his job a miserable time, I improvised the scene again with the past feedback to improve on my actions and respond to each reaction.

Week 14
In the final week for where we had to perform the Christmas show case, we rehearsed for a small period of time before going down which then I continued doing some normal bodily warm ups such as tilting the head as well stretches and spine rolls to relieve myself of any tension or stress.

Movement

Week 1
In today’s lesson we started off with the introduction to the movement session by getting, as we continued with starting off with using shapes through lane movement as we’d take on shape as objects as well puddles through representing ways of expressing the chosen action through different ways of using the body. I found this rather difficult to do in the beginning as I wasn’t able to be as creative with my body through using my limbs.

I would like to improve on strengthening my shapes or to improve on my confidence with using different ways to move across the lane through exploring different ways of moving.

Week 2
We started off with our sun salutations in the morning as well exploring the space through moving around freely as we would get use to the walls as well objects around us and how we would use them, we then moved onto trying out as how we would use a lion whilst moving around as a lion, wall, hero, and princess in the space for which we would work on exaggerating that movement from strengthening shapes and directions.

I found this rather easier than before as we was to try different ways in creating the character/creature/object through movement such as a lion standing on both two feet as a human.

Week 3
We started off with doing our sun salutations once again as we then moved into doing lane work once again as it was important to try and do something outside of the box instead of trying to pick or assume what I was to do, such as being more experimental with the wall movement as I started on doing the sheep flock which is where we had one person leading the group with different various movement as we wasn’t allowed to split up.

In the flock we would have different people taking part; I found this rather easier than any other exercise as it was to improve our coordination skills with movement, cooperation as well special awareness.

Week 4

In today’s session we continued with doing the warm ups whilst taking it in turns which then the person who was chosen was able to start off slow or fast and gradually gained speed during repeating the one position as we then started with moving onto using the space with five people at the least being in the space as we would be allowed to freely explore the characters and we’d use our interpretation of the movement for the movement and how they’d react to the space.

This steadily got easier for me each day from continuously practicing it however I found it difficult to still play certain characters such as the princess or wall and how to creatively create such movements.

Week 5
We started to work on the playing with gestures as well repeating them in a consistent routine which then we played around with the tempo as well speed, we’d take a position on the space as we would then start off with a normal speed in repeating the same movement which then our peers would suggest to have it quicker or slower or more dramatic or less dramatic as in making it bigger or smaller, after this we got into groups for which we would use multiple movements and sounds to represent a machine.

I found this hard to do as we was in a group of two and that we had to remember multiple different actions and noises in a certain pattern for which we had to speed up or slow down and that my concentration needed to be improved, I improved on my concentration by doing more focus exercises in class.

Week 6
In today’s lesson I started off with the sun salutations as well normal bodily exercises such as the head turning and spine rolls to relieve the body of any tension, we then moved onto doing movement once again as we continued with doing the different movement patterns as well actions for which then we would work on adding levels to the action to make it bigger and bolded, I’ve improved on it by practicing with exploring different variations of movement as well heights and levels.

Week 7
In today’s lesson we started to explore the chair piece exercise for where we chose our partners in by exploring different heights and shapes in making a short repeated pattern with the chair, the music was involved afterwards to see whether it would make any difference as this effected the speed as well way’s it way’s such as more lighter movement or flowing with a soft soothing movement.

I found this to be more relaxing as well adaptable than any other exercise for which we was capable to take our time in as well to explore how we could use our body’s to connect with the chair in representing a story as for the rest of the session we learned about In All Languages such as the duet.

Week 8
In today’s session we was given our sheets for the a midsummer Night’s Dream, we started to use our practice on exploring the lion from our first sessions for the performance in using the lion as well wall and other roles in the performance, we discussed about the performance at first for which then we moved onto pairing up into groups for which then we started to assign our own roles and discussed about how we’re performing the piece.

We decided that we wanted to perform as a bad hammy comedy for which then we allocated roles to each other for which I played as the Lion, we begun working on our first scene which was meant to be a practice scene until it went really well during the showcasing.

I wasn’t able to finish the scene as it still had timing issues which I would like to improve on, I can improve on this by working on the queuing as well timing for the next lesson.

Week 9

In the ninth week, we started to polish and rework the first scene to make it more coordinated as well use of spatial awareness, as we was missing some members we continued to working on it alone as a pair for which we moved onto starting the next scene which involved moonshine as I decided to play this character. I found it rather hard to transition from the lion to the moonshine character, as this was still rough we started to develop on the scene which then we moved onto doing a short run through from the first scene to the other.

The position started was difficult due to the change as it didn’t make sense at first yet people found it funny due to how bad it was, I improved on this by standing still and announcing the change to the role with a flow like movement whilst saying moonshine which then I went straight into interacting with the prince.

It seemed that my changing role was quite deliberate which I needed to make it that I catch myself off guard with it by doing it unexpectedly.

Week 10

We started the day off with more warm ups which then we moved onto doing some space work straight afters, following with another rehearsal for the performance which we then moved onto polishing the scenes more as then the princess scene was being discussed for the next session, after finishing a run through example.

I’d like to improve on the actions with the characters by making the movement bigger or exaggerated as if it was purposely set to look sluggish yet funny which then I had to work on improving moonshines movement.

Week 11
We started to merge with another group first thing in the morning due to missing amount of people, however we was able to mix in with another group without any problems as we involved their pieces as well ours by discussing and arranging the queuing order of each performance.
I found this difficult at first due to them not being able to match as the transitioning’s made it quite hard yet we was able to modify each one so they would flow into each other perfectly smoothly.

Week 12

We continued to move on with arranging the scene’s which then eventually they met, after the scenes we started to work on the last two scene’s which was to do with the wall and the prince and princess talking which then went into the ending with the lion and all of the characters coming in which would be the same prince’s, princess’s and lion’s repeating the same actions as they’d be confused who the actual prince and princess is until the lion roars and scares them.

We found the last scene to be rather difficult as it had some safety issues such as people landing on each other or even piling which could’ve been dangerous so we decided to change and finalize it as the lion’s entrance and exit.

Week 13
Today was the day we started to do a couple of rehearsals as well final discussions about finalizing the performance which then we moved straight onto stage setting, once everything was ready we moved onto getting in an audience waiting for our performance, as we started to do our full performance everything went smoothly, however after the performance we did a small brief on how we thought it went.

I think that I could’ve improved on exploring further with the use of flow when coming to movement as I only used the levels, speed and light and heavy movement.

Week 14
In the final week of movement we entered a circle which then we started to do a full session on feedback about how we thought the performance went and how we could’ve improved on this in future, I thought the performance was quite enjoyable and fun as we was allowed to have the chance to freely explore all kinds of levels and movements that we could’ve found to be uncomfortable and to use that to our advantage.

Singing

Week 1

In the first week of singing we was introduced into the La, La, La, song as well BPM which we sat in a circle with our shoes playing a simple rhythm to a BPM on the board whilst repeating the same lyrics after one another.

Week 2
Today we learned about the Larynx and how the important parts about it are used as if it’s a tool for us to use when it comes to singing as we’re an instrument, we had a homework assignment to build the Larynx as well to bring it in once done by using the template below

Week 3
Today I brought in my Larynx after building it which ended up looking alright after positioning it, we also helps with breathing as well has a mechanism to stop us from choking, as soon as we pick up something that seems heavy our breath would strain making it seem very difficult

Week 4

In today’s session we learned about the true and false vocal folds as these both play different parts in our singing as we also did a song with Barbra, of she died, she did, she died of a broken rib she did, I found this song to be rather odd which then we got split into groups as we was given separate queues where our groups would say a certain bit.
I found this very odd to perform as I didn’t see the point of why we was singing this in the beginning.

Week 5
In today’s lesson we started off with another warm up as we learned about a warm up for where we could roll our tongue around our front of the teeth, we also learned about the tongue as well the Roots, doorsome, blade and the tip, I found this session to be slightly disturbing as we had to watch a video of an actual inside of the folds.

Week 6

In the sixth week we started off with more warm ups such as the tongue rolling as well another recap session of what we’ve done before which we then moved onto doing Standby me, we was split into groups which some of us was soprano, tenor and outto’s which we all started off with queues of when we will start off and not.

The tongue warm up gave me an uncomfortable ache in my mouth however was quite helpful as it helped with waking up my vocals as well facial area.

Week 7

In this week we was informed of selecting a song that we will have to perform in a couple of weeks which then we went straight into listening some of our pears perform their songs which then I moved straight onto doing a group song again, we then started to do another song with Barbra in a circle

Week 8

In the eighth week we started off with doing another group singing session which then we went straight onto listening to more of our classmates perform the selected songs which then we moved onto talking about the Aspirate which is breath as well the Smooth and Glottal which is closing of the word.

I wasn’t very keen on doing the warm up song today as I wasn’t able to hit certain notes, I would like to improve on my pitch as well use of tone levels.

Week 9

In today’s session we started to talk about the offsets and the onsets as we started to discuss about what singers use either of this during or before they start singing as if they use their breath before saying any singing notes or lyrics which then we moved onto having a couple of more pears who did singing performances before the ending of the lesson after doing another small song with Barbra.

I was able to challenge myself from the last target today however I wasn’t able to hit really high notes but I was able to go out from my normal tone or deeper tone as I tried to go slightly higher.

Week 10
In today’s session after a continuous rehearsal at home of working on my vocals as well lyrics for my song which I chose Princess and the frog “I’ve got friends on the other side”, I chose to perform this song because of how it matches my tone of voice as well that it’s a slow beat based song which picks up with a steady rhythm which I find quite enjoyable and matched to my interest, after watching previous students of singing I went up to perform my song which I got feedback expressing that I need to learn the lyrics by coming off script as well that I need to maintain my confidence more better

My confidence level was quite low for when I was performing as I could feel a tremble in my lyrics as I was doing my performance and I would like to improve on this by next time I have to perform without the score sheet on piano as well being able to stand still in front of everyone without feeling uncomfortable.

Week 11
We started to learn about the song called “Do you hear what I hear?” I found this song to be quite complex in the beginning after being set into separate groups Tenos as I was struggling to read the score sheet until I realised that it jumps down by lines quite massively, I also found it difficult to keep up with the harmony parts as I would slightly be out of pitch.

Week 12
We started to get into the circle straight away to do another quick full rehearsal of the last lines on the score sheet for which then had someone in our group to do a recording of the male’s harmony so we would be able to practice it in our spare time, as we finished the lesson I went home to do some rehearsals, I thought that I could’ve done my queuing better as sometimes I would sing a bit too early or too short.
