Acting Log Book

Week 1

In today’s class we began with being introduced to a couple of warm ups which was to help with bodily warm up such as relaxing the muscles in my arms, body, waist and neck before starting to the activity, I found this to be slightly difficult as I wouldn’t be able to do the spine roll all the way as It felt very uncomfortable.

I would like to be able to go further with the spine roll as I also kept forgetting to breath and to do this by next lesson I will be practicing it at home before going out or taking part in any kind of movement or sports.

Week 2

In the second week we started off with doing warm ups which then it moved onto sitting in a circle whilst counting up until ten without speaking over one another, if we was speak over someone else we would have to restart again from one, this was quite difficult in the beginning as it wasn’t easy to remain in focus once someone messed up therefore I’d like to improve on my concentration by doing exercises on focusing on one spot.

Week 3

In the third week we started doing our morning exercises which then we moved onto using the bean bags to help with hand coordination as well concentration when working as a team to pass them around without dropping them, we would also have to call each other before throwing it to indicate that we’re passing it to them. I found this rather helpful to improve on my focusing skills.

Week 4

We started the day with doing body warm ups by exercising the limbs as well stretching out as we once again repeated doing all of the warm ups as well started to learn about using the Semi Supine to help with body reaction which we added in breath reduction to improve on our lung capacity, I found it rather challenging in the beginning as I wasn’t able to hold onto letters for a long period of time as I would run out of breath before reaching the goal.

I will improve on this by trying some breath reductions at home as well holding onto notes or lines as long as possible each day.

The breath reduction helps with expanding my lung capacity as it also helps with being able to cover more larger blocks of text as this helps with not forcing myself to do too much which could cause problems as well that it assists with listening to the body and heart rate which helps with evaluating what needs warming up.

Week 5

In today’s lesson we started off with reading the script for Knot of the heart which then we took it in turns reading into the characters script and lines, we did this to get use to the background of the story of each character as well how they talk and act during the scene.

We also searched into the characters and who they are and what do they act like.

Week 6

In the sixth week we started to Unit the performance after being put into pairs which then we moved onto giving the Units certain names such as “Characters Introduction”, so we could find out where the changing parts are at and why they change, whether it’s a distraction or different topics.

We also started to look into starting a small bit of action for which we selected the reason of the actions and why they’re doing the action such as putting the suit case/recorder onto the table which indicates that he clearly is investigating her and not interviewing her.

In today’s lesson we started off with reading the script for Knot of the heart which then we took it in turns reading into the characters script and lines, we did this to get use to the background of the story of each character as well how they talk and act during the scene.

Week 7

We continued with finishing the Uniting as well actions of the script so we could start rehearsing it, as we begun rehearsing the performance we then started out setting it up for where the actors positions are and why they’re standing or moving to that spot.

We’ve also started to practice the lines as well use what exercises we’ve done in voice to help with our meaning and pronunciations for Knot of the Heart.

Week 8

We continued with doing warm ups in the morning such as semi supine, breath reduction as well spine roll, we do these to help with looking after our limbs and muscles so we don’t pull or strain any of them. We’ve finished the actions of the script which we’ve moved onto doing full rehearsal after sorting out how the characters should move and react in the scene.

It was important that we did warm up’s as well the semi supine position to check in with our bodies as well breathing to ensure that we’re in fine condition before starting any kind of session so we don’t injure ourselves or pull anything.

Week 9

We started today off with a morning with the repeated warm ups as before however we then started a line of audience for where we went up in pairs for doing a full performance run through for tutor and peers feedback on how we could improve on it which one of them being that we need to give the character Andrew more Vitality as well express more boldly.

I found this to be hard to take on as I wasn’t so sure how to improve on this yet I found out that from one of my lessons of voice that we need to ground the voice more than raising it as well as how he’d sit and respond with exaggerated movement or interest.

The warm ups today helped with my right arm as it felt rather exhausted and it helped me with sorting my arm out as it was quite stiff, this helped me with preparing for my performance.

Week 10

For the tenth week we continued to do full rehearsals as well line recaps to each other so my partner and I was able to perform certain parts of the script without looking down or relying more often on the script itself as well doing corrections on certain actions that looked rather unpolished and rough, after that we looked at the synopsis/background for our characters to start applying them to the performance.

We’d end up doing morning warm ups on a continuous basis to ensure that we limber up on all of our limbs so we don’t end up twisting or pulling muscles as this was crucial to avoid putting anyone else at risk or ourselves during practices.

Week 11

We continued rehearsing as well doing more work on embodying our characters and how they’d talk as well interact with each other, I found it rather difficult to still fit the vitality part of the character because he wasn’t as lively still for when he’d prompt questions to her and that my reactions wasn’t big enough to encourage any kind of response and that I need to look further into the context so I can figure out what’s the meaning of why he’s interested.

Week 12

In our twelfth week, we’d do another full run through with the script again as we was still working on the conflict as I needed to improve on how he would react to the situation for where he gets the water thrown over him or how she goes hostile towards him because of the matter that he said the wrong thing, as well how he would change his approach after giving up because she won’t break.

I found this challenging due to the matter of not knowing how he would personally act through context because of his professional role, I’m going to improve on this by doing research into how the character would present themselves on a daily basis as well live amongst others whilst working.

We’ve also once again selected a space for safety by checking our surroundings we had to make sure that our mobile devices we’re turned off and put away to avoid any dangers or disturbances.

Week 13

After our final rehearsal I continued to learn my lines for our performance as well how I’d use the space and props, the placement of the chairs and where Lucy would be. I did this through structuring the set and scene after each rehearsal on how Andrew would enter the scene.

Health and Safety

I would do warm ups each day to avoid pulling any limbs such as the windmill with the arm as well head tilting and body/hip moving to free the body from any kind of tension.

I would also do leg lunges, stretches as well spine rolls to help the body feel more lose and relaxed before doing any kind of performance to avoid getting any injuries or trapped muscles.
